6WESTERN KENTUCKY 0502 The National Weather Service says showers and thunderstorms will be on and off into the the first half of next week.  

32WASHINGTON 0502 A federal agency is focusing on Webster County.  The Environmental Protection Agency has announced that Webster is one of the two communities that will receive technical assistance.  The E-P-A and Webster County will work together to develop a plan that promotes environmental and economic revitalization. Webster is still experiencing the economic effects of its last mine closure five years ago.  It also has extensive abandoned mine land which the community would like to put to alternative uses.

25MADISONVILLE 0501 The I-69 car chase that began in Hopkins County yesterday (on Wednesday) involved a speeding driver who would not pull over in Madisonville.  Instead 20-year-old Amber Wilkins almost hit 100 miles ah hour as she raced to Henderson.  When she spotted stop sticks on the road, she hit the brakes and stopped at the Long John Silvers on the Henderson strip.  No one was hurt.

45MADISONVILLE 0501 Our local college is quick to say that scholarship programs are helping many students.  In the last two years, a new fundraiser has become a part of the program.  Spokesman Austin Tarkington says this will be the second year of the Derby Day Celebration.  He says the event helps meet a specific need of the students.

HOPKINS COUNTY 0502 The parents of two middle schools that have had multiple bullying complaints are going to meet.  The African American Coalition of Hopkins County says it will be at the Hopkins County Regional Chamber of Commerce in Madisonville on Saturday, the 11th.  This will be the second meeting.  According to Channel 14, the parents are in the process of filing a joint Class Action lawsuit.  Their Louisville attorney will be at the meeting.

22MADISONVILLE 0501 One person sustained non-life threatening injuries in a 2-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on East Center Street.  44-year-old Larry Husk of Owensboro was making a left turn in his rollback tow truck when he collided with a Jeep being driven by 49-year-old Hazel Dorris of Madisonville. Dorris visited the E-R.  

38HOPKINS COUNTY 0501 In Hopkins County, the humane society is at its peak for the year with cats and dogs.  Dustin Miller is the executive director.

17GREENVILLE 0502 In Greenville, it’s the time of year for hydrant flushing.  The utilities commission says residents should not be alarmed if they see prolonged periods of water release.  They say the process helps to insure the highest quality water, and also helps the system to function appropriately.

37MADISONVILLE 0501 Just for the record, motorcyclists can be involved in a traffic stop.  44-year-old Joshua Skinner of Madisonville was pulled over late Tuesday night on Park Avenue for not having a headlight or tail-lamps.  The officer says Skinner ignored the officer’s emergency equipment and attempted to flee, but ending up crashing in the yard on Park Avenue Court. He then got up and ran, ignorning the officer’s commands to stop.  When Skinner was caught, he said he had recently smoked marijuana.    He also was unable to produce a driver’s license.  Skinner is facing 9 charges.

29MADISONVILLE 0430 Reckless driving on I-69 Monday morning around 8 o’clock is what led to a traffic stop on Island Ford Road.  The police report states that Billy Messamore’s passenger appeared to be very nervous.  When the officer was not allowed to search the Ford Mustang, the drug dog Drax was called.  A cigarette pack with suspected meth was located and both persons were arrested. Messamore and Rosa Messamore, were charged with possession of a controlled substance.

17MADISONVILLE 0430 A new exhbit is on display in Madisonville.  The Anne P. Baker Gallery at the Glema is showing the work of Maureen Berry through the 16th.  It’s entitled Wild African Adventurse in Art.  The gallery is free.  The hours are from 9 to 4 weekdays.

23MUHLENBERG COUNTY 0501 This is a difficult time for the Kentucky State Police at Post 2.  Trooper Jonathan Johnson lost his life in an off-duty motorcycle crash in Bowling Green Tuesday morning.  The 9-year veteran was assigned to Muhlenberg County. Trooper Johnson received the post-level Detective of the Year honor in 2019.  He also served at the post in Bowling Green.

0418 37MADISONVILLE 0401 In Madisonville, there’s talk of a new fire station.  For years, Fire station 2  at 99 East Mc Laughlin Street has been the smallest fire station in the city.  In fact, the building used to be a grocery store.  Fire Chief Jason Eli says the relocation of Station 2 would improve arrival times at southern locations.

22WEBSTER COUNTY 0501 Two Webster County men are incarcerated following a traffic stop Monday night.  30-year-old Broderick Woods of Sebree and 44-year-old Travis Gibson of Dixon were pulled over because of reckless driving.  The deputy found them to be in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.  Woods and Gibson were arrested on State Route 132 East in Dixon.

23WEBSTER COUNTY 0430 This is the second year for the Excellence in Teaching Awards presented by Madisonville Community College and Murray State University.  The winners in Webster County are Heather Coble – of Dixon Elememtary, Lucas Morgan of the middle school, and Bailey Townsend at the high school. Coble, Morgan, and Townsend are described as having a tremendous heart for their students.

40MADISONVILLE 0429 Last weekend’s Beech Bash in the Bluegrass is turning out to be a little historic for Madisonville.  The event at the airport in Anton drew around 125 airplanes and up to 350 people.  On Monday, Mayor Kevin Cotton received a wonderful comment.

37WEBSTER COUNTY 0430 Sometimes, one crime investigation solves a second crime.  On Saturday, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office did a traffic stop.  They discovered that the driver’s license of Steve Twedell of Providence was suspended.  He told the deputies that he was going to help some friends whose vehicle was stuck near the Tradwater River.  Deputies located the disabled vehicle and learned that Christina Peters and Derrick Atkins each had an active arrest warrant. The W-C-S-O also located marijuana and meth in their possession.  Now, Peters and Atkins are at the detention center.  

20HOPKINS COUNTY 0429 In Hopkins County, the school district will soon accept credit cards.  Beginning in the fall, students, staff, families, and the public can begin using credit and debit cards, as well as eChecks.  There will be what they are calling a soft launch in May at a few locations to test the system.  You’ll be hearing more about it.

13HOPKINS COUNTY 0429 In Hopkins County, the school district is conducting an online survey to guage the Future Ready Graduate initiative.  All students, staff, and parents are invited to complete the survey.  Details are on social media.

20MADISONVILLE 0430 The Dixon woman who nearly hit a Madisonville police car on Sunday morning at 2:30 is facing charges.  28-year-old Brooke Jacinto is facing drug and D-U-I charges following the incident on West McLaughlin Avenue.  Channel 14 is reporting that Jacinto admitted she was in possession of meth and synthetic marijuana.

31MADISONVILLE 0429 The M-P-D has the report of a Friday night burglary.  The homeowner’s video shows Rosamay Johnson in the victim’s yard beating the lock on a storage building.  The homeowner and a neighbor each identifed Johnson as the person who caused the damage.  They say the building was rummaged through but that nothing was taken.  When the police spoke with Johnson, they said she was still wearing the clothing seen in the video. She said she was helping a friend.  Meanwhile, the homeowner is getting an estimate to repair the damages.

38Webster County 0430 The state senator representing Henderson, Hopkins, Union, and Webster is sounding the alarm about a federal rule that many see as faulty.  Robbie Mills says the E-P-A does not understand that green power producers are not capable of meeting our energy needs.  Here is Jim Matheson of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

24MADISONVILLE 0430 We have the names of the Excellence in Teaching Awards for Muhlenberg County.  Madisonville Community College and Murray State University say the winners are  Ms. Jessica  Bivin from South Elementary, Ms. Dana Bruce from South Middle, and Ms. Jennifer Wright from the High School.  Bivin, Bruce and Wright were recognized in a ceremony last evening at the Glema. Mahr Center for the Arts.

22HOPKINS COUNTY 0424 The annual book giveaway in Hopkins County is this week at numerous locations.  Celebrate Literacy is for preschooler to 5th graders.  A child may pick out a free book at each site. The books have been provided by Celebrate Literacy and by the Hopkins County Schools.  The locations and times of the giveaways are on social media.

13HOPKINS COUNTY 0330 In Hopkins County, the school district wants to remind you of a deadline.  The last day this spring to submit an application to be a volunteer is today (Tuesday, April 30th.)   There’s more about becoming a volunteer on the district’s website.

25WESTERN KENTUCKY 0429 The state senator representing Henderson, Hopkins, Union, and Webster believes radical environmentalists are spreading misconceptions.  Robby Mills says they are choosing ideology over performance.  He says the E-P-A announcement on power plant regulations raises significant concerns about our nation’s energy landscape. Mills says our country needs reliable power sources.

23FRANKFORT 0418 The medical cannabis business is about to take off.  Businesses can begin applying to be licensed on the first of July.  Licensing begins in October.  The governor says the focus will be on prioritizing safety in the cannabis industry. There is a website detailing the program.  It’s called: Team Kentucky Medical Cannabis Program.

16MADISONVILLE 0426 The roadside mowing season begins this week.  Kentucky law prohibits the placement of non-official signs of any type on state highway right of way.  This includes utility poles, fences, guardrails and road signs.

35KENTUCKY 0422 A new website aims to help Kentuckians just out of prison re-enter society with job training, employment and other recovery services.  Governor Andy Beshear says the plan for the site is for it to contain a list of employers.

14WEBSTER COUNTY 0429 The Webster County Schools are now registering online.   If your child is new to the district, please stop by the school district headquarters in Dixon to complete the process.  The address is 28 State Route 1340.

25KENTUCKY 0426 The next class of Kentucky State Police troopers will earn a 67-thousand, 500-dollar annual salary and also have an improved retirement system with a sick leave buyback program.  The governor says applications are due by June 30th.  To promote the K-S-P, their recruitment team will be attending career fairs, college events, and other events to recruit potential troopers.

18HOPKINS COUNTY 0427 A Maroon offensive lineman will be playing at a prominent Division Three school.  Michael Bailey has signed to play at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge.  They say Mickey has a G-P-A of 4 point 5, and that his desire is to someday be a mechanical engineer.

33HOPKINS COUNTY 0425 The state is approving a building development project in Dawson Springs.  The community’s industrial development foundation is reporting that it has been approved for 2-million dollars in state support for a 4-million dollar project.  Now, West Hopkins Industries says the project will seek to complete site-readiness preparation and construct a 100-thousand square-foot spec building.  A spec building is intended to attract a business tenant. Officials say the long term objective is well-paying jobs and economic growth.

18HENDERSON 0426 Some highway road work will be done in Hopkins County starting today.  On Kentucky 22-73, the plan is to do shoulder work at mile markers 2 and 3.  On Friday and Saturday, cross drain replacement and ditching will be done on Kentucky 262 between mile markers 1 and 2.

41HOPKINS COUNTY0423 They said that it would take years to bounce back from the tornadoes of December 2021.  No one knows that better that Hopkins County Judge Executive Jack Whitfield.  It’s still one of the most prominent items on his schedule.

32Madisonville 0424 The Madisonville police say on Wednesday afternoon, a drug suspect during a traffic stop told the officer that he was going to jail after he saw the drug dog arrive.  The officer who had 32-year-old Sage Keane of Nortonville pull over reported that he noticed that the driver of the Mitsubishi Galant appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.  K-9 Arkham located meth-kits and meth in the trunk.  Keane admitted that he used meth and knew there would be drugs in his system.  He is facing three drug charges.

10MADISONVILLE 0426 In Madisonville, it’s budget time.  The city council will have a special meeting on tomorrow morning at 7:30.  It will be at city hall at 67 North Main.

16HOPKINS COUNTY 0426 The Hopkins County Regional Chamber of Commerce is looking forward to what they call the Legislative Wrap Up.  On Thursday, May 2nd at 8, they will host Senator Robbie Mills and Representative Wade Williams at 15 East Center Street.  A light breakfast will be served.

13MADISONVILLE 0426 The Muhlenberg County highway that was closed due to a landslide is about to be reconstructed.  The state says they hope to have Kentucky 22-70 reopended at mile 5 point 6 before Saturday.

29WESTERN KENTUCKY 0425 Law enforcement agencies in Western Kentucky are glad to see that the state legislature is committed to a second Department of Criminal Justice Training center.  By placing it in Madisonville, it means that more cadets can be trained sooner.  State Senator Robby Mills says it’s been known to take up to eight months before the cadets can start their training at the state’s only training  facility in Richmond.  He says this means cities can get the new officers on the street more quickly.

19MADISONVILLE 0424 One person is recovering from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision in Madisonville during the noon hour yesterday (Wednesday) .  The police say 66-year-old Joy Johnson of Sacramento lost control and rear-ended a truck with a trailer on Island Ford Road.  Johnson visited the E-R.

22CENTRAL CITY 0424 It was not a rifle, but it sure looked like one.  That’s how the Central City Police described an “orbeez” airsoft-style rifle that was in a vehicle this past weekend at Holly J’s Bar and Grill on North 1st Street.  The police say playing games with these guns is dangerous because it could put someone in a stressful situation with law enforcement.

33MADISONVILLE 0424 Heavy window tinting is what led to a Madisonville traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of the passenger.  The officer reported that during the noon hour on Tuesday, there was a strong marijuana odor coming from the G-M Yukon.  During a search of the vehicle on Highland Avenue, 22-year-old Skyler Lohse (LOWSH) of Providence admitted that there was marijuana in his possession, as well as a number of pre-rolled marijuana joints and T -H-C gummies  Lohse was also in possesion of large quantity of cash, in different denominations.

26MADISONVILLE 0422 The Madisonville police are out with a report on the woman who was carrying a red duffel bag, stumbling, and screaming in front of a residence on West Lake Street late last week.  The officer said her pupils were constricted, that she was extremely fidgety, and her language made no sense.   She said she had smoked synthetic marijuana.  A female officer retrieved a plastic bag from her clothing containing a small amount of meth.

22MADISONVILLE 0422 Madisonville Community College has a new director of Workforce Solutions.  Melanie Tapp had been the assistant director.  Workforce Solutions is described as the premier training and career development source for the entire Pennyrile Region.  Tapp is taking over for Mike Davenport who is retiring.    from the college after 47 years.
