Arlie, a domestic shorthaired cat, entered the scene as a stray but is now in search of his forever home. Arlie’s gentle nature shines brightly around children, making him an ideal companion for families. However, transitioning to a new environment may take him some time, as he requires a period of adjustment before feeling fully at ease. Wild African Adventures in Art by Maureen C. Berry

April 12 @ 9:00 am – May 16 @ 4:00 pm

The Anne P. Baker Gallery presents “Wild African Adventures in Art,” a multimedia exhibit by Maureen C. Berry. This collection is comprised of nearly 70 pieces and will be on display from April 12 through May 16, 2024. The community is invited to an opening reception on Friday, April 12, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Maureen C. Berry is an American visual artist based in Kentucky. She was first a food writer, seafood cookbook author, photographer, and speaker focusing on sustainability. She transitioned to art in 2020 after a life-threatening cancer diagnosis. This exhibit includes watercolors, photographs, inks, acrylics, textiles, and other forms of media. Some items will be available for purchase.

The Anne P. Baker Gallery is located inside the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts on the campus of Madisonville Community College. Hopkins County Humane Society’s Pet of the Week Monday, April 15

Hopkins County Humane Society’s Pet of the Week Monday, April 15

Meet Baby, a resilient and loving 2-year-old dog who’s a unique mix of Plott Hound and Mountain Cur. Baby’s journey began when she arrived at the shelter as a stray, accompanied by her 11 precious puppies. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the shelter staff, her puppies found their way to rescue organizations, but Baby herself is still awaiting her forever home. Despite her challenging start, Baby’s temperament shines through. She’s a gentle soul who gets along well with cats, dogs, and children alike, making her an ideal addition to any family. Baby has been in a foster home and she is house trained, crate trained, and a joy to walk on a leash. However, Baby’s journey to finding her forever family hits a snag-she’s tested positive for heartworm. While this might seem daunting, it’s a hurdle that can be overcome with proper treatment and care, which a potential adopter can discuss with their local vet. Despite being in the shelter for 30 days, Baby hasn’t lost hope. She eagerly awaits the day when she’ll finally find a loving home where she can share her boundless affection and loyalty with her new family.

Sushi, a 1-year-old domestic shorthaired cat, was adopted but recently returned due to litter box issues. However, at the shelter, she has exhibited no problems using a pelletized bedding litter, indicating a preference over traditional clay litter. She gets along well with other cats, although she may require some time to adjust to new feline companions. However, Sushi would thrive in a home without dogs, as she is more comfortable in a canine-free environment. Despite her initial shyness around new animals, Sushi is incredibly sweet and affectionate, making her an ideal companion for a loving forever home that understands her needs and preferences.
