The driver of a Ford Escape that made an improper turn on Park Avenue is facing three charges, including not having a registration plate. A check of Court-Net indicated that Mark Coppage had been charged multiple times with driving with a suspended license. The police report states that Coppage was taken to the Hopkins County Jail.
Two federal grant awards totaling almost 5 million dollars will help MCC invest in low-income individuals and potential first-generation college students in programs designed to guide students through secondary school. The TRIO Talent Search Program is intended to help students in grades 6 through 12 in Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Crittenden, and Webster counties.
The Hopkins County Young Professionals will be giving the community the chance to hear from the candidates who will be on the November ballot. Kentucky is declaring a state of emergency in regards to diesel prices. The governor says this will allow farmers and truckers to use untaxed or dyed diesel fuel on public roadways. Earlier, a federal order had relaxed restrictions on dyed diesel.
For the sixth straight year, Kentucky is one of the top business states. Governor Beshear says the Commonwealth is 4th in Labor Cost Competitiveness, 6th in Energy Costs, and 8th in Regulatory Environment.
Owensboro Health is growing. The urgent care organization now includes Gateway Urgent Care and Mercy Urgent Care. The partnership positions Gateway and Mercy for continued growth and strengthens Owensboro Health’s ability to expand access to care across Western Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Patients should not expect any immediate changes to Gateway or Mercy locations, hours, services or operations.
The state police are charging a Muhlenberg County man with a number of crimes, including murder. A witness told authorities that the victim had been with Skylar Shanks at his home on Wild Horse Lane near Central City when there was a gunshot. Killed was 39-year-old Amber DeArmond. Troopers were told that a man with blood on his clothes was seen near a shed at a residence on Kentucky 70. Shanks was found hiding under a pool deck. He was trying to get away until he was tased. After a search warrant had been obtained, troopers found bloody clothes and meth. Shanks will be arraigned on October 12th.
Champions for a Drug-Free Muhlenberg County is partnering with law enforcement and community organizations to host Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The objective of the event is to rid the community of unused, unwanted, or expired medications. It will be Monday, October 12th at the Greenville First Southern National Bank from 9 until noon. In the afternoon, it will be from 3 until 6 at the Central City Fire Department. Everyone will receive a free Rx Destroyer pouch for safe at-home medication disposal.
The president will visit Western Kentucky on Saturday. The reason for his visit to Fort Campbell has not yet been released.
