The National Weather Service says a cold front will bring widespread showers and a few storms.
Due to lack of a quorum, the Madisonville city council will not meet on Monday, the 5th. The next meeting will be Monday, the 19th. In addition to the city council on the 19th, the budget and finance committee will meet at 3, and the annexation and zoning committee will meet at 3:30. These meetings are on the second floor of 77 North Main.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is now collecting tax bills. If you have not received your bill by the 12th, please contact the Sheriff’s Office. When mailing your payment, please include your copy of the tax bill or put the tax bill number on your check. If you would like a paid receipt, please enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. There’s a 2 percent discount if you pay before November 1st. Penalties will be applied beginning November 2nd.

Our state’s senior senator says he supports the Protect College Sports Act. Senator Mitch McConnell says it’s a bipartisan federal bill passed by the US Senate designed to establish a unified national legal framework for college athletics. He says the measure will replace the patchwork of state Name, Image, and Likeness laws and grant limited antitrust exemptions to the NCAA and athletic conferences.
In Hopkins County, many are looking forward to the General Election Forum on Tuesday, the 13th, at Mahr Park Arboretum in Madisonville. The Hopkins County Young Professionals say all local candidates have all been invited to attend the forum-style event. Questions will not be given out ahead of time. Even as a damaged support beam on the southbound U-S 41 Twin Bridge in Henderson is being repaired, the state is implementing a temporary traffic shift to keep drivers moving. The plan is to shift one lane of southbound traffic onto the northbound bridge. Once in place, the configuration will provide three lanes on the northbound bridge and one lane on the southbound bridge. The state says when this configuration has been used in the past, there have not been a lot of backups.
We’re in the forest fire season again. So, as in past years, from now until Decemer 15th, there will be no burning before 6 PM. Despite one of the wettest winters on record, Kentucky’s forest fire hazard season has begun. It is illegal to burn anything within 150 feet of any woodland or brush land between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The non-partisan League of Women Voters of Kentucky is out with its first-ever Voting Report. It provides a compilation of legislators’ votes on bills and resolutions. The Report provides insight into the General Assembly’s priorities as they relate to the League’s policy positions. They say the Kentucky Legislative Voting Report is a free voter education tool that citizens can use to evaluate the work of their elected leaders.
