Sara Evelyn Crayne Eison, 93, of Madisonville, KY, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Baptist Health Deaconess in Madisonville.
She was born on October 17, 1932, in Fredonia, KY, to the late Roy Franklin Crayne and Myrtle Brown Crayne. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Earl “Monk” Eison; and her son, Anthony Crayne Eison.
Sara had worked as secretary/treasurer of Western Kentucky Energy Equipment.
She was a prolific storyteller and writer. Sara loved decorating the house for holidays, painting, and loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy was being a mom.
She enjoyed playing golf and was even an extra in the movie “A League of Their Own.” She loved going on trips with her girlfriends and enjoyed dinner club at Madisonville Country Club. She was also a very creative lady, spending some time playing her guitar and writing songs.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Evelyn (Dennis) Howard of Lexington, KY; her son, Barnett Clayton “Clay” Eison of Madisonville; five grandchildren, Lauren (JP) Eison Leiendecker, Sara Alice Eison, Dennis “Tate” Gordon Howard III, Evelyn Crayne Howard, and Sara Marie Howard; and her great-grandchildren, Huxley Eison Leiendecker and Rune Marigold Leiendecker.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 2, 2026, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home – Madisonville Chapel, with Rev. Terry Davis officiating.
Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Howard II, Tate Howard, William Ainsworth, Ray Taylor, Fred Ball, and Cliff Ramsey.
