MCC will recognize local GED graduates during their commencement ceremonies this (Friday) evening. The Hopkins County graduation will be at the Beshear Education Center at 2-thousand College Drive at 5:30. The Muhlenberg County GED graduation will be held in Central City on Friday, October 2nd, at 5:30 at the Merle Travis Music Center.
The Madisonville police say a man on parole will be facing seven new charges. The police were called by Probation and Parole officers to make an arrest at a Wells Avenue address. The officers discovered that Colin Moore was in possession of several new controlled substances, all of them being illegal narcotics, and drug paraphernalia. During his arrest, Moore struck one of the officers before he was transported to the detention center.
Careless driving is what drew the attention of a Madisonville cop on South Main. Upon making contact with Antonyae Jones, the police report described him and his passenger as intoxicated. He said he and his passenger had been drinking about an hour before they got into their Kia K-5. Jones was lodged at the detention center.
The governor is announcing funding for three Abandoned Mine- Lands Economic Revitalization Programs. Two involve Hopkins County.
The Muhlenberg Fiscal Court will receive two million dollars. They plan to install welding equipment for the students at the new training facility.
The name of the man found in a city park lake this week is now known. The body of Jerry Skaggs was found on Tuesday. It was recovered by firefighters. No foul play is suspected. They say he appeared to have lost his life in an accident. There will be an autopsy.
In Providence, two persons are under arrest after a traffic stop. The K-9 Buzz alerted the deputy to a loaded handgun, multiple packages of methamphetamine for individual sale, and drug paraphernalia consistent with narcotics trafficking. Arrested was Lucian Townsell and his passenger, Chelsea Smitson. Each faces three charges, including Trafficking in a Controlled Substance.
You’re in the voting booth when all of a sudden you’re hit with a constitutional amendment, and you really don’t know how to vote. Well, there is an amendment on the November 3rd ballot. It’s in regards to the power of the governor. You are either for it, or against it. The Hopkins County Clerk’s Office Facebook page has a detailed description of the amendment on its Facebook page.
In Washington, Congressman James Comer says the socialist wing of the Democrat Party is gaining momentum and increasingly shaping the party’s agenda.
U.S. News & World Report is out with their list of the Best Regional Universities in the South. They used up to 17 measures of academic quality and graduate success. That placed Murray State at 22nd, and Western Kentucky at number 30th. Another ranking had Murray number 10 and Western as number 15.
