Alvin Franklin Hook, 87 of Nortonville passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at his home. Born on December 11, 1938, Alvin’s parents were the late Wiley Robert and Aileen Marie (Putman) Hook of White Plains.
He worked over 22 years in the coal mines and was a member of the UMWA and Camp 2 Peabody Retirement. He was also a member of the N.H. Shaw Masons in Nortonville.
Along with being a hard worker and provider for his family, Alvin’s family has the peace in knowing that he was a born again Christian and he enjoyed attending Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church in Nortonville.
They also know that he was a dedicated husband to his beloved wife of 68 years and that he was very proud of the family that they had built together.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Floyd, Lonnie and Charlie Hook; sister, Virginia Todd; grandparents, W.G. Putman; and great-grandchild, Brylee Patterson.
Survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Ruby Rodgers Hook; daughter, Holly (Gary) Whitaker; son, Richard “Ricky” (Ashley) Hook; 6 grandchildren, James (Ashley) Demoss, Nathaniel (Crystal Parrish) Demoss, Ashley (Brian Hendricks) Demoss, Noah (Hannah) Demoss, William (Martina) Hook and Colby (Bailey) Patterson; and 6 great-grandchildren, Daylen Demoss, Bentley Demoss, Legend Hook, Nayvie Patterson, Henley Hendricks and Rylan Demoss.
Service will be held Friday at 1:00pm at Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church with Bro. Daniel Vandiver and Bro. Ruby Rickard officiating. Burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Gilkey, Will Hook, Colby Patterson, Jamie Demoss, Nathan Demoss, Noah Demoss and honorary pallbearer is Harold Bean.
Visitation will be held Thursday 5:00pm – 7:00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville and on Friday from 11:00am – 1:00pm at the church.
