Buddy Wayne Brooks, Sr. was born on February 11, 1938 in White City near Mortons Gap, KY to Conard and Viola Fridy Brooks.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant sister, and twin brothers Robert and Edward Brooks.
He is survived by wife of 31 years, Mary Ann Reynolds Brooks of Madisonville, daughter Ashby Jakober (Bryan) of Danville, KY and son. B. W. Brooks, Jr (Rachel) of Waller, TX, stepsons Derek Anderson (Heather) of California, Roger I. Jones (Marsha) of Graham, NC, and John Michael Jones (Kim) of Peabody, MA. Grandchildren Kennedy, Rian, Harlow, and Beckham Brooks of Texas, Tristian and Ethan Redmond and Benson Jakober of Danville, step grandchildren Kimberly Jones and Eric Jones (Kristie) of Massachusetts, Ryan Jones (Melissa) and Jessica Jones Harris (Ben) of North Carolina, sisters-in-law Pat Tichenor Emmons of Owensboro, and Donna Schmidt of Evansville, five great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Buddy graduated from Earlington High School, class of 1956, and attended two years business administration courses at Kentucky State University, while a resident of Frankfort. He worked over 40 years in the telecommunications industry, sixteen years with the Bell Telephone System plus seven years with the Kentucky State Government as Director of Telecommunications and the Public Service Commission, thirteen years in Alaska, seven years owner of A & B Telecommunications, and several years traveling as an inspector and engineer involving placement of fiber optic cable across the United States.
He served in U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for 11 years and received an honorable discharge. Fraternal participation as member of Post 6 American Legion, an officer of Frankfort, KY Jaycees for 7 years, served BPOE, (Elks) in Past Exalted Ruler and Trustee leadership roles.
He was a former 25-year member of Madisonville Noon Kiwanis, serving as President, Past-President, Board Member, and was chairman of the Take A Kid Fishing event for 12 years. Honored as 2005 and 2009 as Kiwanian of the Year and was a four-time recipient of Children Priority One Award. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and member of the Hopkins County Genealogy and Hopkins County Historical Societies.
As a member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Madisonville, he served as Deacon, Elder, member of the Property Committee, and was honored by being elected an Elder Emeritus.
Hobbies include working crossword puzzles and history. For several years he enjoyed twice a week breakfasts with a group of friends and he and his wife’s participation in multiple dance clubs, traveling, time at the lake, and attending horse races.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday October 10, 2026, at First Christian Church with Rev. Kara Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington, KY.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until the service time Saturday at the church.
