The Madisonville police are reporting the result of their investigation of a Nortonville man in possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material. It was determined that Cody Matheny was in possession of multiple child sexual abuse files, in which ten videos depicted children under the age of 12. Matheny was transported to the county jail.
The November ballot will include a constitutional amendment. It will ask each voter if he or she favors limiting a governor’s ability to grant pardons or commute sentences. Amendment One will go before voters in the general election on Tuesday, November 3rd.
The governor and a Kentucky congressman are at odds over the state’s plans for rural health funds. Andy Beshear says the president’s One Big Beautiful Bill will result in the commonwealth losing at least 21 billion dollars in Medicaid funding, strip 250,000 Kentuckians of their health insurance and endanger the livelihoods of 20,000 healthcare workers. Andy Barr is challenging those claims. He does not believe the changes would cause the closure of 35 rural hospitals in Kentucky. Barr also questioned where over 212 million dollars in the state’s first-year allocations from the Rural Health Transformation Program were going, and why they were not being used to keep financially struggling hospitals afloat through the upcoming changes.
A much loved Kentucky writer has died. Wendell Berry won widespread acclaim by railing against agribusiness and fought for small family farms and the environment. Many are saying Berry’s death leaves a vacancy of voice that was not always without controversy, but was decisive and steady throughout a long career. Wendell Berry was 92.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is releasing the details about the airplane that crash landed in Dawson Springs on Tuesday night. The small plane landed near Industrial Park Road. By the time deputies arrived, both occupants were out of the plane. They said they were not injured, and that the plane experienced engine failure. They attempted to land at the Dawson Springs airport but they said they couldn’t find it because of the darkness, so they attempted to land on Industrial Park Road. The matter is now being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Madisonville police say the swerving car on Grapevine Road that was being driven by a driver with slurred and slow speech is facing two charges. Bryce McDaniel admitted to the officer than he had been drinking and had also smoked marijuana, but expressed to the officer that he did not consider himself impaired. McDaniel was transported to the detention center.
Madisonville Community College will be a part of the nation’s largest trades coalition. The Lowe’s Foundation says it will help train and develop over one million people for skilled trades careers in the next decade. MCC says their integrated HVAC and electrical programs will be included in the Building Future Skilled Trades Coalition. There’s a link to read about this development on the MCC Facebook page.
Hopkins County, one of the most important persons on campus is the school resource officer. Most all have experience in law enforcement. Sergeant Austin Young of the MPD says they focus on security by patrolling hallways, monitoring entry points, and responding to threats or crimes.
