A 94-year-old Madisonville building will be getting a makeover. State leaders are providing 100-thousand dollars to renovate the Rosenwald-Smith Multicultural Center at 208 North Kentucky Avenue. The improvements include a new roof. The center began as a segregated school and was named for the philanthropist Julius Rosenwald. It was was part of the school-building program by Rosenwald and educator and orator Booker T. Washington.
Using a search warrant, the Madisonville police are charging a Beaver Creek Drive resident with drug crimes. Debra Vandygriff is charged with possessing drug paraphernalia, and with trafficking methamphetamine. A number of the items were locked in a safe. Vandygriff was transported to the county jail.
A reckless driver on I-69 is being charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance. During the traffic stop, Nolen Duren explained that he was on medication. It was reported that he could not follow simple instructions during the sobriety test. In the vehicle, the officer located a lockbox that contained several prescription pills.
The senator representing Hopkins County in Frankfort is glad Attorney General Russell Coleman is leading the state’s effort to place protections for children on social media. Additionally, experts believe other platforms will follow including Tik-Tok and YouTube. Some of the protections on Facebook and Instagram include a 2-hour time limit per day for children under 18, and no notifications during school hours.

The scammers are claiming their loved one can be released if the family pays a certain amount of money for an ankle monitor or electronic monitoring device.
