Two people are incarcerated following a traffic stop on Taylor Street in Clay. The sheriff’s office says Preston Whitfield admitted to being a convicted felon and stated that he was in possession of a firearm. After conducting a search of the vehicle, deputies recovered two loaded handguns, a quantity of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Additionally, both Whitfield and Makenzye Stone were taken into custody. Whitfield faces 7 charges, including no operator’s license, and Stone is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
The MPD is reporting a failed shoplifting attempt. After getting details about the theft from the Beer, Wine, and Liquor Outlet on West Center Street, officers located Toni Himes walking down Oak Street. Himes admitted to the officer that he stole a bottle of tequila. He was then transferred to the detention center.
In Henderson, the state says the work to make permanent repairs to the left lane of the southbound bridge will begin near the end of the year. Until that time, the southbound bridge is safely stabilized. They say the initial project to strengthen the bridge is scheduled to be completed primarily during the overnight hours and will be completed in under a week.
Nobody minds friendly competition. In this case, Senator Robbie Mills seems to have discovered some interesting comments from some Henderson residents about Madisonville.
The driver of the Black Lexis that made a careless U-turn on South Main is facing two charges. The police say Dirk English was driving without a license. English told the officer that there was nothing illegal in his vehicle, but a search located a handgun under the hood near the intake manifold. English became a convicted felon six years ago.
Search warrants are a key part of drug investigations. When the MPD conducted one at an address on Beaver Creek Drive, they located meth, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, as well as an unspecified substance. Placed under arrest was Amber Sheets.
In Dawson Springs, the school district finally has a School Resource Officer. Justin Jones is a retired sergeant with the Madisonville Police Department, who also worked with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office. He was sworn in by City Clerk Martha Hamby. Jones is a native of Rabbit Ridge and a graduate of West Hopkins High School and Murray State University.

The high school program that introduces how the city of Madisonville works is about to begin. The Junior Ambassador program allows the students to hear directly from city leadership. Most every student who has been a Junior Ambassador comes away with a positive experience in regards to community involvement.
