It doesn’t matter where you live, the cost of living is about the biggest focus of lawmakers everywhere. State Senator Robbie Mills says that’s certainly true in Frankfort.
The Central City Fire Department has new leadership. Fire Chief Phillip Groves says he is honored to know that he has the mayor’s confidence. He has been with the department and the Greenville Fire Department since 2004. Groves says he appreciates Chief Caleb Phelps for his leadership and unwavering dedication to the Central City department. He says Chief Phelps will continue serving in his new role as Assistant Fire Chief.
The director of the organization representing fur trappers throughout the state is not excited about the legislature’s decision to allow for the hunting of bobcats. As a district director for the United Trappers of Kentucky, Chet Hayes thinks Kentucky has a decent bobcat population, and that more needs to be known about the cat before the decision is made to reduce their numbers.
Frankfort says the Republican Party continues to pick up voters. There was a 15 percent increase in July. Democrats lost 32 voters. The most noteworthy political news may be that during the just completed month, those choosing to go independent outnumbered both other parties.
The state senator representing Hopkins County has some comments about where he is on data centers. Robby Mills says the decision to have one has to ultimately be decided by the locality. He says the state has many old industrial sites and brownfield sites that would be perfect for this kind of development. He says a blanket no on development is probably not the best approach. Mills says all costs associated with AI buildout projects must be born by the developer and the AI client. He adds that we cannot allow residential or small business electric or water rates to be negatively effected.
The Dawson Springs City Council meets this evening at 5:30 at 200 West Arcadia. It will include a discussion on the Vacation Buy Back Program for city employees.
In Frankfort, the Auditor of Public Accounts is urging the Beshear administration to crackdown on waste, fraud and abuse within Kentucky’s administration of public benefits programs. Allison Ball’s letter warned that the penalty for noncompliance will be the loss of federal funds. Ball says the Governor has consistently dismissed her office’s reports and is choosing to place the Commonwealth at-risk of losing federal funding.
As we move closer to the fall, Kentuckians are invited to make their voices heard at the Citizen Foster Care Review Boards’ virtual forums. Residents can share their perspectives, learn more about the foster care system and help shape conversations about the needs of children and families.
