In Hopkins County, the elections office says the deadline for any potential write-in candidate in the November election is not correct. The actual deadline for any write-in candidate for the Dawson Springs Independent Board of Education is at the close of business on Monday, the 24th. Documentation must be submitted to the county election office at 24 Union Street. Presently, there are two vacant seats.
As the new school year begins, there are some new rules for traffic near school buses. When the stop arm on the school bus begins flashing its lights, drivers in both directions must stop. This includes most 4-lane roads. The only time you don’t have to stop is on a four-lane highway that is divided by an unpaved median or a raised barrier.
The driver who was killed in a traffic accident on Saturday in Daviess County was a Sacramento man. The Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says 98-year-old Shelby West failed to negotiate a 90-degree turn and crashed into an embankment in the 18-hundred block of Hill Ridge Road.

The Transportation Cabinet is doing the annual inspection of the Twin Bridges in Henderson this week. There will be be single-lane traffic in both directions from 9 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon. They should finish the job on Thursday.
The Madisonville driver of a truck that ran through a red light is facing three other charges. During the traffic stop of Mitchal Neal on Dozier Street, the officer spotted narcan containers, syringe lids, and open alcohol bottles that were empty. He also located in Neal’s car a baggie suspected of containing meth.
A speeding motorcycle in the middle of the night on Main Street is what drew the attention of the police. The officer says Zachary McHugh was not only was speeding, but was using his high beams, and was too close to the vehicle in front of him. The police quickly noticed that McHugh smelled like alcohol, and in his judgement, a sobriety test was not necessary. McHugh was also not in possession of his driver’s license. Altogether, McHugh is facing 9 charges.
Team Kentucky’s Pre-K Pilot Program is now expanding to Dawson Springs. The governor says in two years, it will serve over 160 children.
