The Hopkins County School District is beginning a mentoring program to assist middle school students to help them avoid opioid addiction. It was presented to the fiscal court by County Attorney Lee Riddle.
The court voted to assist the program with a one-year amount of 40-thousand dollars.
We hear it all the time. Our country needs more plumbers, more electricians, more HVAC technicians, and the list goes on. That’s why Madisonville Community College Workforce Solutions will be offering what they call All-in-One Continuing Education Training on August 22nd. Participants will be able to complete multiple continuing education requirements in one day. One of the options is a 36-hour course for plumbers. You can register on MCC’s website.
The governor is expanding the Pre-K Pilot Program. The Little Panther Academy in Dawson Springs is one of five preschool centers in the Team Kentucky Pre-K for All Pilot Program. Pre-K for All is dedicated to ensuring all 4-year olds have access to a preschool education.
The city of Dawson Springs is accepting sub-grant applications to help rehab historic property. The Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grants Program is affiliated with the National Park Service. Applications can be picked up at city hall until the close of business on September 8th.
A Madisonville driver with excessive windshield tinting is facing four charges. The police report says Bernard Montgomery crossed the center line on South Main. He was found to be in possession of a large baggie of meth. The officer also located US currency and multiple, clear baggies. He also spotted an open bottle of beer.
The driver who ran through a stop sign on Island Ford Road is also being charged with not possessing a driver’s license. Central Dispatch notified the officer that this was the second time Jose Gonzolaz had been stopped for not having a driver’s license. This led to his arrest and his transfer to the county jail.
The Webster County man who fired shots near the Clay Fire Department on Thursday is facing charges. Deputies say 47-year-old Jonathan Casey is a convicted felon. They say he fired several shots into the air following an argument. A search of Casey’s home found a 9-millimeter handgun. His charges include wanton endangerment and possession of a handgun by a felon.
In Dawson Springs, online applications are being taken for Marketplace Commons. The new construction on Recovery Drive will provide an all-age 48-unit community with 8 one-bedroom units, 28 two-bedroom units and 12 three-bedroom units. Each will have a washer and dryer. Marketplace Commons will have a fitness center, clubhouse, and playground.
The governor says the state is having success in reducing recidivism. Mr. Beshear says one of the reasons could be related to the increased effort to educate inmates.
