The Madisonville police are reporting two sexual assaults at the Madisonville Manor Nursing Home. The victim claims Nicholas Newman entered her room while she was asleep. Another victim is claiming that she also was sexually assaulted when Newman entered her room with a knife. The police report states that Newman was arrested.
There will be no meeting this afternoon of the Madisonville City Council. The next meeting will be on Monday, the 17th at 4:30 in the City Council Chambers on North Main Street.
Madisonville Community College continues to lead the way in aviation education for the state of Kentucky. In the last week, the school has added an airplane to its aviation program. The school is one of the first in the state and nation to acquire an airplane. It’s a fully electric aircraft, the first in Kentucky and only the second of its kind in the nation. Officials say the plane will enhance hands-on training opportunities and strengthen aviation workforce development efforts.
The Green River Area Development District has an announcement for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities who need assistance. They say action is now required to keep your place on the Michelle P. or Home and Community-Based Waiver waitlist. Those who wish to remain on the waitlist must submit a completed Provider Attestation Form by January 31st of next year.
All Webster County students and their families are invited to Ready Fest. The school district says it’s intended to help everyone be prepared for school. There will be free haircuts, school supplies, and a free lunch for students. A parent or guardian must accompany each student. The Ready Fest is today from 10 until 1.
This is the first full week for Hopkins County’s new sheriff. After Charles Young was sworn in on Friday afternoon, he had a few words for those gathered at the new sheriff’s office on 261 Responders Lane.
With the retirement of Matt Sanderson, Charles Young ran unopposed in the sheriff’s race.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a driver who committed a number of violations. Their report states that Jared Smith was under the influence of a controlled substance. As officers attempted to stop him, he failed to yield and committed more infractions. After he fled on foot on West Noel Avenue, he was captured after hiding under a blue tarp behind a building. It was also found that Smith’s driver’s license was suspended and that he had no auto insurance. The officers did locate a THC vape pen. Smith has been charged with 16 crimes.
A vehicle with just one headlight is what caught the attention of the Madisonville police. During the traffic stop on West Noel Avenue, Tara Dees could not produce a driver’s license or proof of insurance. It was also found that Dees was charged with driving with a suspended license in Caldwell County. She was transported to the detention center.
