The state representative for Hopkins County says the largest gathering of state legislators from across the nation is occurring through Wednesday in Chicago. Robby Mills is there with House Majority Whip Jason Nemes on Election Technology, Security & Trust. Mills says he will attend several sessions, including ones on energy, datacenters, and economic development.
When an MPD officer was notified to check the insurance of a motorist, he learned that the driver did not have an up to date policy. The traffic stop of Jacob Phillips was on Park Avenue. Phillips admitted that he used some cocaine and had used a small amount of meth. The officer spotted a baggie containing a white powdery substance that was consistent with illicit drugs. A syringe and pill organizer was also found. Phillips faces seven charges, including operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

Upgrades that pilots will appreciate will be made to the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport. The work will be done to the runways and several taxiways. The new L-E-D lighting system will provide improved visibility and lower maintenance costs. Just days ago, SkyWest Airlines announced that United Express service will begin in the fall. It will replace the current E-A-S service provided by Contour Airlines.
Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville is promoting a scholarship that removes financial barriers for nursing students. They say the Anne Smaldone Nursing Scholarship helps further their education, improve the community’s workforce, and provides more local nurses. In its first years, the Anne Smaldone Nursing Scholarship has helped 16 students through school who then came back to care for their local friends and neighbors.
The Madisonville police have the report of the arrest of the woman who claimed to be with the FBI who was screaming and cursing from the front steps of the Justice Center on Center Street. The officer quickly determined that Robin Doyle was under the influence of an intoxicating drug. In order to be arrested, Doyle had to be taken to the ground.
The state police say a scam is being directed at the families of those incarcerated at the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. Jailer Terry Nunley says its perpetrators pretend to be members of the Detention Center who advise family members to bond amounts for their incarcerated loved ones. Nunley says the scammers claim they can accept the bond money using platforms such as Chime or Cash App. He says the detention center never accepts bond other than IN PERSON, with proper ID, and they only accept cash or money orders.
In Denver, the national chair of the Executive Committee of the National Lieutenant Governors Association is our state’s lieutenant governor. Jacqueline Coleman will provide leadership in such areas as strategic efforts, and guiding the association’s work to foster bipartisan partnerships across state lines. Coleman is the fourth chair to hail from Kentucky. Former Governor Martha Layne Collins also served in that position.
