In Madisonville, the city council will meet this (Wednesday) morning at 8-15 to enter into an agreement with the state in regards to the extension of Midtown Boulevard. The Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant program makes federal funds available.
The state police are investigating a fatal crash in Muhlenberg County that occurred Sunday night. Three people lost their lives at Highway 431 North and Power Plant Drive. A preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was driven by 35-year-old Whitney Duarte of Central City. She crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck. Dead is Duarte, and the the truck driver and his passenger, 56-year-old Kevin Latham of Bremen, and 67-year-old Joey Watkins of Central City.
Sometimes a concrete highway has to be replaced, or repaired. Matt Hughes of the Transportation Cabinet says when it’s appropriate, road workers use the process known as rubblization. The heavy road tool chips away the deteriorated concrete pavement one small section at a time.
The process is being done on a section of I-24 in Christian County, and likely will be used someday when major repairs are made in Madisonville on South Main Street.
The coffee business in Madisonville is losing another shop. Campfire Roasters is closing its doors after nine years. The owners want to thank everyone for helping their family live the dream of owning their own business. They encourage customers to use their gift cards before they become obsolete. Campfire Roasters last day will be Saturday, July 11th.

The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of two persons in what appeared to be dangerous traffic stop. The police stopped Sherry Martinez and her passenger Azekuel Smith Sunday on Sandcut Road because Martinez did not have a moped license. During the stop, the police say Smith kept reaching around the backseat. During a search, they found a loaded handgun, two unidentified pills, and brass knuckles. Both Martinez and Smith were arrested.
The man who walked away after a police officer asked him to stop is facing six charges. The officer followed Nickolas Schoelkopf to a location on Price Avenue after noticing that he was not using his seatbelt. He concluded that Schoelkopf appeared to be under the influence of a foreign substance and smelled of marijuana. It was also found that Schoelkopf’s license was suspended.
The M-P-D is reporting the arrest of a man riding a stolen bicycle. The officer arrested Finis Mullins after spotting him on the bike. He told the officer that a friend had given him the bike. Mullins was also in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
The new school superintendent in Muhlenberg County goes to work today. In the last 25 years, Brian Lile has been a teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal, and the district’s Human Resource Director. Lile is a Muhlenberg County native and graduated from Muhlenberg South High School.
Here’s some good news for senior citizens living in Dawson Springs. Those who are 65 or older who stop by the city hall annex and fill out a discount form will receive a senior garbage discount. It will knock off 12 dollars each month. The last day sign up is Friday, July 24th.
