The state senator representing Hopkins, Henderson, Union, and Webster counties is back from a day long conference in our nation’s capitol. Robby Mills says the The White House Intergovernmental Affairs team focused on Kentucky. They heard from four Cabinet Secretaries speaking on a variety of subjects, including energy, datacenters, medicaid, and medicaid fraud. Mills says it was a free flowing dialog and a lot of Q & A. He says he left with an increased number of contacts.
A caller is credited with notifying the police of a vehicle with a blown tire speeding on Park Avenue. Located in the Fazoli’s parking lot on Ruby Drive was vehicle filled with marijuana smoke was Raynna Maya. After failing the sobriety test, she was arrested. Maya admitted she had been drinking and smoking marijuana. Then it was found that she did not have a driver’s license. Maya was transported to the detention center.
During this city budget season, Madisonville says the two city park dams need work. City Administrator Rob Saint says this is costly project.
The governor is legally challenging Republican-backed efforts to shift powers within Kentucky’s executive branch. Andy Beshear’s lawsuit is aimed at blocking House Bill 10. He believes it violates the bedrock separation of powers in the Kentucky Constitution and usurps the Governor’s supreme executive authority because it would give the attorney general and state treasurer oversight of some actions a governor may take before an inauguration, or when a new gubernatorial term begins.
In Madisonville, the city council has a special meeting this afternoon. Included will be the second reading of the Madisonville budget set to go into effect on July 1st. There will also be a resolution for Mayor Cotton to enter into an agreement for architectural services for the Hopkins County Senior Citizens Center Rehabilitation Project. The meeting begins at 4:30 at city hall.
The driver of the Ford Econoline who made an illegal turn on Grapevine Road is facing four charges. All Jackie Beasley could produce was a suspended driver’s license. His registration had been canceled. Beasley was arrested and taken to the county jail.
The Hopkins County Jail is preparing to launch a workforce training class in July. This is possibly due to the jail’s partnership with M-C-C Workforce Solutions. The program allows participants to gain workforce skills, certificates, and opportunities to earn partial college credit that can equip individuals with the knowledge and tools for a successful future. Jail officials believe rehabilitation is the result ot education and workforce development.
Each month, Fort Campbell releases 450 military members. In recent years, Madisonville leadership has been hoping that this group could produce some new residents. Here’s Mayor Kevin Cotton.
The newest member of the Madisonville Police Department is Sgt. Austin Young. He recently graduated from the Department of Criminal Justice Training’s Academy of Police Supervision. Young is now prepared to be a supervisor in the M-P-D.
