In Madisonville, the city council has a special meeting on Monday, the 29th, at 4:30. Included will be the second reading of the annual Madisonville budget set to go into effect on July 1st. There will also be a resolution for Mayor Cotton to enter into an agreement for architectural services for the Hopkins County Senior Citizens Center Rehabilitation Project.
The police know that most every traffic stop is unique. When Nathanial Shelton was stopped on I-69, the police ran his license plate and discovered that there was a warrant for his arrest in Virginia. The M-P-D was told by the Henrico County Sheriff’s Office that they wanted to extradite Shelton.
Medical marijuana is slowly attracting more attention in Kentucky. In Nortonviille, Andy Couch of Pioneer Family Medicine says most of their medical marijuana patients are over 60 who have found that a marijuana creme is effective for diabetic neuropathy.
Couch says there is a local orthopedic surgeon who believes the creme is effective for patients with pain from knee surgery.
In Owensboro, the board of trustees at Kentucky Wesleyan College is in the process of putting together a presidential search committee. Dr. James Cousins has retired. The Provost and Senior V-P of Academic Affairs will be serving as the interim president. His name is Dr. Stephen Germic.
One of the finest high school bass fishing teams in the state is in Muhlenberg County. Under Coach Napier’s leadership, the team has grown to over 20 members, and had nearly 10 state champions since 2013. They had an outstanding performance at this year’s State Championship on Kentucky Lake. One of the team’s supporters is the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation.
The police love productive Crimes Stoppers trips that lead to an arrest. There was a call about trafficking synthetic drugs and methamphetamine from a residence on West Lake Street. After checking the temporary tag, the M-P-D learned that there was an arrest warrant Randall Blanchard. After a stake out that lasted several hours, Blanchard appeared and discovered that he had no alternative but to surrender. Using a search warrant, the police located meth and drug paraphernalia. Also arrested at the West Lake Street address was Bradley Morgan and Jessica Foe. Blanchard, Morgan, and Foe are each charged with with the same drug crimes. Morgan was also charged with possession of synthetic drugs. The West Lake Street address also was where Denver Caraway was arrested. He was in possession of synthetic drugs, and charged with a parole violation.

On Sunday, Madisonville will commemorate our country’s 250th birthday by honoring local patriots. The memorial includes names of Daniel, Peter, and Stephen Ashby, as well as James Bailey, John Montgomery, and William Young. 65 Hopkins County patriots fought for American independence. The event will be on the Old Courthouse Lawn at 10 South Main Street. The Dedication Ceremony begins at 2 on Sunday. The event will be held rain or shine.
