This week in Muhlenberg County, a number of young people are volunteering their time and skills to help homeowners with a variety of projects. A significant supporter of the work that’s being done by the group known as the Kentucky Chargers, is the Felix E. Martin Jr. Foundation. The projects include include building A-D-A ramps, painting, and siding work. The projects are being done for families who can’t afford the repairs or are physically unable to do so themselves.
West Hopkins School has a new principal. Jennie Knight has served as instructional leader for the past three years. She has been an educator for more than 20 years, 14 of them in Hopkins County. Knight says she is genuintely excited about the position.
Advocates say it’s important to support animal welfare during, and after, natural disasters. Humane World for Animals recently awarded a 50-thousand dollar grant to the Hopkins County Humane Society after their facility was destroyed by a tornado last year. The executive director of the humane society is Dustin Potenza.
The man who struck his roommate with his fist is being charged with assault and resisting arrest. After being dispatched to a disturbance on North Scott Street, the police spoke with Scott Armstrong and his roommate. Just as they were about to leave the property, they heard yelling and screaming coming from the house. The police report says Armstrong tried to pull away from the officers and intentionally tried to prevent the officer from making his arrest.
The Central City police say they have recovered a stolen business vehicle near Leitchfield. Surveillance video is what led to the arrest of Paul Hack. He is charged with receiving stolen property, specifically, a 2024 Ram van.
In Hopkins County, the clerk’s office says their passport service is being interrupted due to system limitations. This will continue through the 26th. Regular passport services will resume on Monday, the 29th.
The Nortonville Fire Department is mourning the sudden passing of Lieutenant Jerry Norris. The veteran firefighter passed away this week. Everyone agrees that he will be greatly missed. The department is asking the community to keep the Norris’ family in their prayers.
