The U.S. Postal Service is observing Juneteenth today. All Post Office locations will be closed. Regular mail delivery and retail services will resume on Saturday.
The Webster County School District is hoping today’s Test Drive a School Bus event will result in several new drivers. It’s from 10 until 2 at the high school. They say it’s just an informal way for some to see if driving a school bus is the right way to go. All that a driver needs is a driver’s license. The Hopkins County Humane Society is grateful for the support Humane World has provided as they go about the process of replacing their shelter that was destroyed by a wind storm last year. The Kentucky State Director of Humane World for Animals presented them with a 50-thousand dollar grant to help offset the cost of the renovations to the temporary shelter at 319 Dulin Street. In speaking to the Madisonville Lions Club, Todd Blevins said his organization is working to improve laws and protections for animals across the Commonwealth.
A Greenville police officer knows that he was patrolling the right place at the right time. In the 200 block of Tammie Lane, he spotted smoke coming from a house. In no time, the fire department put it out. They say in started in a bathroom fan and that most of the damage was to the attic.

A call to the police by neighbors who spotted a man walking around an abandoned residence on Princeton Road is what led to his arrest. Christopher Williams told the officers that he knew he should not have entered the shed. Still, Williams was charged with trespassing.
The driver of a Chevrolet pickup on Grapevine Road is facing four charges. Allan Offutt was transported to jail when the officer doing to the traffic stop spotted a Schedule Two controlled substance in the vehicle. A further seach of Offutt’s vehicle led to the discovery of marijuana, synthetic drugs, and drug paraphernalia.
In Webster County, today is the final day of the the Joint Military Services Innovative Readiness Training Program. Available are dental exams, teeth cleaning, fillings, extractions, vision exams, glasses, medical checkups, and the like.
The hours of the free health services will be from 10 until 5 in Dixon at the high school. Services are provided on a first come, first served basis.
In Dawson Springs, the city council will have a special meeting on Tuesday, the 23rd. New business will include the 2nd reading of four amendments. The meeting will begin at 5:30 in the council chambers at 200 West Arcadia.
