In Hanson, one person is dead and seven others are being treated for serious injuries in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon. The sheriff’s office says just after 2 o’clock, the vehicle being driven by Deborah Townsell crossed the centerline and hit the vehicle being driven by Christopher Cook. Townsell suffered severe injuries. Her passenger was Lucien Townsell. He suffered fatal injuries. Cook had six passengers. All are being treated in an out-of-state hospital. The collision occurred at 55-75 Stagecoach Road.
With the news that Oakland City University is closing, many colleges in the region are stepping up to help the students. This includes Madisonville Community College. The state says students in the 6 to 17 age group who has received SNAP, K-TAP, or Kinship Care for at least a month since July 1st of last year are automatically approved for the Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program. The state senator representing Hopkins County in Frankfort is back from Washington D-C. Robby Mills attended a national legislative leaders meeting that included a visit to the White House where the group received updates from the president’s executive team. Mills also says he had a discussion about the I-69 bridge with Missouri Congressman Eric Burleson who is working on the Transportation Budget. He said there should be a lot of funds in the budget for bridge work.
In Hopkins County, the Economic Development Corporation says the fast track to improving the local econony is site readiness. Prospective industries are much more inclined to take an interest when the infrastructure, workforce, and existing supporting industries are in place. The E-D-C says a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to position communities for future investment and job growth, and that’s what they do for Madisonville and Hopkins County.

Drivers can now get their electric vehicles charged in Central City. Casey’s is off the Western Kentucky Parkwayat at Exit 58 at 645 South Second Street. Each charging station must have at least four charging ports, and be accessible 24 hours a day. The charging ports must work with most E-V models. Dozens of sites are being planned or are under construction.
The Green River Area Development District has a new director of finance. Cory Alexander is a former finance director in Madisonville.
