Obituary

Jackie Clayton, 88, of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at his home.He was born on October 23, 1937, in Providence, KY, to the late Frances Porter Curry and Lonnie Clayton. He was a coal miner for over forty years where he worked for River Queen/Peabody Coal Company and retired from Camp 11 Mines. Jackie was a member of the United Mine Workers Local 9653 where he was the financial secretary and was a member of the United Mine Workers State Compact Council. He always enjoyed having breakfast with his union member friends. He was a fifty year plus member of Madisonville Lodge #143. He loved traveling, fishing, NASCAR races, and was an avid UK Basketball fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and his family. Jackie was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frankie Clayton; and his nephew, Jason Clayton.

His survivors include his wife of seventy years, Lois Norvell Clayton; sons, Mark (Angie) Clayton of Elberfeld, IN and John Kevin (Hollie) Clayton of Henderson, KY; brother, Rickie Curry of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Rachael (Keith) Browning of Madisonville, Melissa (Clay) Tabor of Richmond, KY, Benjamin (Kelly) Clayton of Owensboro, KY, Heidi Clayton of Owensboro, C.J., Ramzee, Reese, and Tilly Clayton, all of Henderson, Cydni (J.B.) Travis of Lancaster, OH, and Cierra (Colton) Harper of Slaughters, KY; great-grandchildren, Sydney, Noah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Josiah, and Cayson; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Kerry Smith officiating. An Evergreen service will be conducted by the UMWA. Burial to follow at 3:45 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Providence, KY.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Monday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are Mark Clayton, John Kevin Clayton, Benjamin Clayton, Keith Browning, Clay Tabor, and C.J. Clayton. The honorary pallbearers are Ed Wyatt, Joe Wiles, David McKinsey, and Bob Helm.
