Richard “Dickie” Burden Obituary
Richard “Dickie” Norman Burden, 80, of Mortons Gap, KY passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Joseph “Eddie” Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY.
He was born on September 15, 1945 in Anton, KY to the late Lennie and Lucille Burden.
Richard had been a member of the Second Baptist Church in Mortons Gap. He had served in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He was a member of Vietnam Veterans of America. He was an avid UK basketball fan and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Richard was a retired coal miner; he had worked for Warrior Coal.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Richard is survived by his wife, Judith Burden of Mortons Gap, KY; two children, Richard Kevin Burden and his wife, Lisa, of O’Fallon, IL and Misti Michelle Hodges and her husband, Edward, of Madisonville, KY; one brother, Eugene Burden of Madisonville, KY; seven grandchildren, Edward Hodges II, Lindsey Fenton, Kirsten Votrain, Kaitlyn Sessions, Skylar Washburn, Brandon Burden, and Tanner Burden; seven great grandchildren, Elenor Fenton, Andrew Fenton, Annalyn Votrain, Aurora Votrain, Lydia Votrain, Addylyn Sessions, and Camryn Washburn; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 1:00PM at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY with Bro. Bear Coursey officiating and burial to follow at Old Salem Cemetery in Mortons Gap, KY. Military Rites will be performed graveside by the Hopkins County Honor Guard and the United States Navy.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10:00AM until service time at 1:00PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Edward Hodges II, Brandon Burden, Tanner Burden, Lee Long, Scott Votrain, and Justin Lloyd.
Memorial contributions may be made to Joseph “Eddie” Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center.
