The man who phoned the Madisonville police numerous times to report fake crimes is being charged with making false reports to law enforcement. Officers arrested David Bryant at the James Madison Inn on Center Street. He actually gave them his room number. Upon being arrested, Bryant was taken to the detention center.
In case you missed it, the Central Office of the Hopkins County School District is now in it’s new location. It’s 21-35 North Main. It will be the site of most of the school board meetings.
Three Hopkins County schools are helping the Ronald McDonald House in Evansville. The students at Hopkins Central, South Hopkins Middle, and Southside Elementary collected 379-pounds of pop tops. That’s estimated to be worth about 227 dollars.
The governor says overdose deaths in the commonwealth have decreased for the fourth year in a row. Andy Beshear also says the last four months are the best in economic investment, that the state has ever seen. Since the beginning of his administration, he’s announced more than 13-hundred private-sector, new-location and expansion projects totaling over 50 billion dollars in announced investments, that created more than 70-thousand jobs.
The future is here. Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities are collaborating with X-Energy to explore deploying a small modular reactor to meet the growing energy demand with long-term, reliable, clean energy. The Commonwealth has formed a non-regulatory agency seeking to support the nuclear energy ecosystem.
The Madisonville Lions Club is grateful for their friends at Hopkins County Collision. They have completed a major project by painting all of the eye glass boxes around town. They say these boxes are making a difference for those in need.
Extradition proceedings are underway for the New Mexico man who was recently taken into custody by the Madisonville police on multiple out-of-state warrants. Gary Dibenedetti (dib-uh-NET-ee) of Albuquerque faces a total of seven charges. They include aggravated battery and evading the police. Court records show Dibenedetti has a prior felony history in New Mexico.
There are two county government meetings this morning. There’s a special meeting of the Hopkins County Fiscal Court Budget, Audits, and Personnel Committee at 9:45. At 10, the fiscal court will convene. They will focus on bids for Public Works material.
In Hopkins County, the annual book giveaway is this week (0504-0507). It’s supporters include the Madisonville Noon Kiwanis Club, and First United Bank. The district’s website lists the locations and times of the book giveaways.
An F-F-A teacher at Hopkins Central is a hero with the humane society. When they reached out to Ben Prevette to help them with speciality drain covers for their temporary animal shelter, he went to work to make sure they would get exactly what they needed. The students also built two temporary benches for the shelter.
