In Hopkins, Webster and other counties, the Sheriff’s Office will close Property Tax collections tomorrow at 4. Beginning at that time, all unpaid bills will be forwarded to the Clerk’s Office to resume collections with additional fees.
A weaving car on I-69 is what drew the attention of a Madisonville cop. During the traffic stop Lauren McGregor had an open bottle of alcohol and there was the smell of alcohol throughout her Chrysler. She had no proof of insurance. McGregor admitted that she had consumed two alcoholic beverages, and was transported to the county jail.

The Webster County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the arrest of a man with an outstanding parole warrant. A deputy on patrol near Providence City Lake observed a vehicle with an expired registration that was occupied by Michael Gray. Gray was found to have methamphetamive and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.
Lawmakers believe several new laws will better protect children. This includes survivors of sexual assault and rape. Governor Beshear says one of them strengthens the stalking laws and the state’s response to sexual assault. House Bill 134 formalizes the role of a statewide Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. They say it will strengthen the state’s response to sexual assault cases and better support survivors.
The National Weather Service says breezy south winds, low relative humidity, and dry vegetation will create an environment favorable for fire growth, especially between noon and 7.
A 3-year-old Madisonville child is hospitalized in critical condition with fentanyl poisoning. The police say the woman who was caring for the child also tested positive for fentanyl. 23-year-old Demontasia (demon-TAY-shuh) Thompson was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child. She is now in the Hopkins County Jail. The child is being treated at a children’s hospital.
The M-P-D is reporting a case of trespassing. Mattthew Alexander was arrested when he chose not to leave the property of the Salvation Army at their request. The police report stated that Alexander had previously been charged with the same crime at the Salvation Army.
A traffic stop on I-69 is what led to the arrest of a passenger. Kimberly Ward was in possession of a black, magnetic box in her purse. It normally is used to hide narcotics. It contained a small baggie of methamphetamine shards. Ward now faces two drug crimes.
There’s a a new partnership between the Stop Scams initiative and the Kentucky State Police. The agreement will give Team Kentucky more tools to prevent scams and protect Kentuckians’ hard-earned dollars. During tax season, scammers impersonate the I-R-S by sending fake refund alerts.
