In Madisonville, two house fires on Monday resulted in one death. Both are being investigated by the police. The fatality occurred on Allen Drive. Area neighbors reported hearing an explosion. A man’s body was located in the room where the fire started. A few hours later, a fire on West Arch sent two people to the hospital. They had to be pulled to safety. Authorities say there is no connection between the two fires.
Today is the pop-up driver licensing program in Webster County. It will offer any service available at a Driver Licensing Regional Office. This includes the REAL ID. The event will be in Dixon at the U-K Cooperative Extension Office at 11-18 US Highway 41-A South. You can register online at this address: drive dot k-y-dot-G-O-V.
The M-P-D police report states that an officer preparing to do a traffic stop on South Seminary for an obscurred license plate spotted the driver hiding something. After Josie Crafton stepped out of the Chrysler P-T-Cruiser, she admitted she was hiding objects. The officer confiscated two bags of meth and some capped needles. Crafton was transported to the county jail.
The state representative for Hopkins County is using his contacts and influence in Frankfort to promote Hopkins County. Wade Williams says the legislature is making a greater effort to be more business friendly. He says the nuclear projects in Paducah are attracting a lot of interest.
The law states that a person named on an emergency protection order is not to come within 100 feet of a declared residence. After an officer spotted Amarie (uh-MAR–ee) Anderson entering a house on Iroquois Drive, he inquired with a resident if that was Amarie Anderson. Shortly thereafter, Anderson appeared and was notified that he was in violation of the order. In no time, he was transferred to the detention center.
The governor is out with a comment about the Commonwealth’s financial condition.
He says for the first time, the 26-dollar hourly wage has extended beyond four consecutive years.
In February, Western Kentucky University is again offering Super Saturdays for 1st through 6th graders. Students from the Muhlenberg County Public Schools will be involved. It’s described as a chance for students to explore a number of subjects. For details, search WKU Super Saturdays.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says this is the second day of a two-day project on Kentucky 120 in Webster County. A culvert between the 8 and 9 mile points is being replaced. The roadway will be blocked to through-traffic from Old Stanhope Road to Quail Run Road. There is a marked detour.
In case you missed it, Kentucky is dropping the Scholastic Assessment Test in favor of the American College Test. In other words, the S-A-T is out, and the A-C-T is in. Everyone agrees that both tests have their strengths and weaknesses.
