One of Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton’s greatest moments actually occurred in Owensboro. That’s where he was recently recognized as the Elected City Official of the Year at the Kentucky League of Cities Conference. Since that announcement, Mayor Cotton says he continues to be amazed with the way Madisonville is viewed by many in the state. (Clip in audio below)
A Madisonville teenager is accused of attempting to steal credit card information. The police say 18-year-old Zane McKinney found a customer’s wallet while on duty at the Golden Ticket Cinemas. The next morning, the victim began receiving notifications that his credit card was being used for transactions. The police learned that McKinney found the wallet. He told them that he put the credit card information into his Cash App account and attempted to make withdrawals that totaled just over a thousand dollars. The police say the victim never lost any money because the transactions were marked as fraudulent.
The Muhlenberg County Health Department is encouraging the use of a free app. The Ready Western K-Y mobile application is designed to aid individuals and their families in preparedness plans, and healthy living. The app offers critical guidance and resources to residents by helping them access such things as digital guides, news articles, videos, and checklists. It can be downloaded using, the Q-R link on the Facebook page of the Felix E. Martin Junior Foundation.
The Madisonville man who falsely reported an intruder in his attic is facing five charges. The police report says 33-year-old Kevin Scott refused to cooperate with the police. He kicked two officers at his Seminary Street residence. Scott was also in posssssion of illegal substances. While the police found no evidence of an intruder, they did find evidence of Scott’s possesion of meth.
In Henderson, a relatively new turning design is being used near the Twin Bridges to promote safter driving. R-CUTs are designed to reduce or eliminate left-hand turns that see vehicles from side roads crossing the paths of two or more oncoming lanes of traffic on the main roadway. R-CUTs reduce the chances of dangerous high speed side-impact crashes, commonly referred to as “T-bone crashes.”
In order to follow state law, Western Kentucky University is no longer providing meeting space or financial assistance to the Pride Center. It opened eight years ago to improve the campus climate for all L-G-B-T-Q Plus students. They must now operate independently of university support. The university is presently awaiting additional guidance from the Kentucky Attorney General’s office about the Sisterhood and similar affiliated alumni groups.
It looks like the birthday of a famous Muhlenberg County singer-songwriter-guitarist is about to celebrated every year. The Third Annual John Prine Birthday Bash is Sunday the 12th from 1 until 4 at John Prine Memorial Park at Rochester Dam. He was a frequent visitor to Paradise, and brought international recognition to Muhlenberg County through his music.
