Ann Lyne Morgan, 91, passed away on September 29, 2025, at her home in Madisonville, Kentucky following a brief but courageous battle with breast cancer. Born June 8, 1934, to parents Duncan and Martha Jett Lyne, Ann grew up on her family’s farm in Logan County, Kentucky. She attended several one-room schools in which her daddy was the teacher. After graduating from Olmstead High School, Ann attended Bethel College in Hopkinsville before completing her degree in Elementary Education at Western Kentucky University. She later went on to receive her Master’s degree from University of Kentucky and her Rank One from Murray State University. In December 1955, Ann married her high school sweetheart, Marian Morgan and lived and taught school in Memphis, while Marian finished up his stint in the US Navy. They later moved to Lexington where Marian attended University of Kentucky, and Ann taught elementary school until they started their family. Marian and Ann moved several times in the next few years, but landed in Madisonville, Kentucky, in 1972. Ann devoted the next 18 years to raising her three children and serving in various roles at church and in the community. She taught Sunday school at several churches, volunteered in the Second Baptist Church Clothing Bank, and served as the first female church clerk there. Ann and Marian also started a Special Needs Sunday school program at Grace Baptist in Evansville. Ann returned to teaching in 1977 at Dalton Elementary and moved the following year to Nebo Elementary, where she taught over 600 kindergarten students from 1978 – 1995. It was common to run into former students who still recognized her and remembered her for the wonderful teacher that she was. Ann believed in giving back to her community and strove to instill this in her children, often taking them to sing to nursing home patients who had no family. She served on the Hopkins County Foster Care Review Board, was an active member of the Hopkins County Historical Society, and served on the Madisonville Tree Board. Ann and Marian loved travelling, beginning with family camping trips in the early years. Later as empty nesters they travelled the country and the world, often with Marian’s sister Eleanor Hunt and her husband, George. Some of their favorites included trips to Ireland, Nova Scotia, Hawaii, and Alaska. Ann was an avid birder, reader, genealogist, and an enthusiast of art and music. She and Marian enjoyed playing cards every week with their friends and spending time with friends in their Book Club. Ann and Marian were active in several church communities over the years, but found their home with their church family at First Christian Church in Madisonville. Ann cherished her time spent with the Cancer Group there, and she and Marian enjoyed being part of the church’s XYZ group. Ann is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Marian, her daughters Ruth (Steve) Biggs and Jennifer Morgan (Mike Cannato), son Daniel Morgan, granddaughters Madeline Stocke (Brandon West), Rachel (Chase) Clement and Molly Biggs (Chris Chavez), grandsons Micheal and Jared Cannato and 4 great grandchildren Kellan and Kason Stocke, Ada Grace and Isabelle Ann Clement. She is also survived by sister, Martha Jo (Clarence) Crabtree, brother, Frank (Alison) Lyne, sisters-in-law, Joan Croslin and Virginia Hale, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her brother Coleman Lyne, her great-grandson John Francis “Jack” Stocke, and her beloved dog Lu. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, October 3, 2025, at First Christian Church in Madisonville, KY, with Reverend Kara Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Red Oak Cemetery in Russellville, KY. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home – Madisonville, KY Chapel, and from 10:00 am until the service time on Friday at the First Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hopkins County – Madisonville Public Library (425 E Center St., Madisonville, KY 42431, for the Children’s Section), the Red Oak Grove Cemetery Fund (c/o Pam Morgan, 3675 Orndorf Mill Road, Russellville, KY 42275) or a charity of your choice.
