Harry O. DeBandi, MD, 88, of Madisonville, KY, passed away peacefully on August 17, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 18, 1937, in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. DeBandi dedicated his life to medicine, family, and community. After earning his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in 1961, he went on to serve Western Kentucky as a board-certified urologist for more than 35 years. Known for his unwavering dedication to his patients, he touched countless lives through his care, compassion, and expertise. Dr. DeBandi practiced medicine with firmness and conviction—he believed deeply in doing what was best for his patients and never shied away from telling them exactly what they needed to hear. While not every patient loved his stern approach, many later came to appreciate that his persistence often led them to better health and longer lives. Beyond medicine, Dr. DeBandi was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Sandy DeBandi; his son, David (Christina) DeBandi; his daughter, Sara (Brandon) Jackson; six grandchildren—Brandon, Taylor, Kate, and Derek DeBandi, and Lucy and Jay Jackson; one great-grandson; his brother, Leo DeBandi; and his sister, Jean Dunn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Harry O. DeBandi, Sr., and his two sons, Mark and Paul DeBandi. Dr. DeBandi will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his strength, determination, and devotion to family. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. There will be a visitation with the family from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, Madisonville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in his memory.
