In Hopkins County, at the recommendation of the opioid committee, the fiscal court is helping an organization with a financial donation. County Attorney Lee Riddle gave the details. Rooted Recovery is a non-profit treatment program designed to help those with opioid addictions. Their request for 8-thousand dollars was approved. They said it will help feed some of their participants.
If you had to select one person who knows the basic needs of a city, the mayor is likely to be that person. Kevin Cotton says monitoring the sewer project is keeping him busy these days. (Clip in audio below)
The Dawson Springs Elementary School-Based Decision Making Council is seeking nominations to fill a vacancy for a parent representative. Those interested in serving or nominating someone should contact the school for information. Nominations will not be accepted after Monday, the 25th.
The Hopkins County Humane Society is reporting that every animal has been adopted. They say they are grateful to everyone who helped to find a home for these animals. The damaged shelter from the April storm will be razed so construction on the new one can begin. Meanwhile, everyone is being reminded to the value of spaying and neutering their pets. Microchipping is also a quick and easy way to keep up with your pet.
Law enforcement in Hopkins County is grateful for the support of the police and sheriff’s office. American Legion Post 6 is thanking the M-P-D and the sheriff’s office for their 1-thousand dollar donation in the Cram the Cruiser event. The event helps families in need.
It was an assault report that sent the Madisonville police to a residence in the 15-hundred block of Scott Drive on Tuesday evening. They found a man who had injuries to his face and head. He described the man who beat him up and that helped the police locate him. The police report states that Brandon Nance was picked up as he was stumbling down the street. There was alcohol on his breath. Nance is also charged with assault.
In Muhlenberg County, the public schools are spreading the word about the new medication rule that affects every district in the state. It says that over-the-counter medications should not be administered in the school setting without a qualified health care provider’s order as well as a signed parental consent. This will be the first year a health care provider’s signature is required on the District’s medication administration permission form.
The Kentucky congressman leading the House Oversight Committee says the bipartisan subpoenas he has now issued promote transparency. James Comer says the American people deserve nothing less in regards to the testimony related to any crimes perpetrated by Jeffrey Epstein. (Clip in audio below)
22 states, including Kentucky, are challenging the Trump Administration over its decision to freeze previously approved grants administered by the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet to support efforts tied to Unemployment Insurance. Governor Beshear says this is not about party affiliation, it’s about federal grants that are being withheld.
