The new city budget will be the center of attention at this week’s Madisonville City Council meeting. It will include Mayor Kevin Cotton’s thoughts about the spending plan. The city hall meeting begins at 4:30. It can be seen on the city’s Facebook page.
The Madisonville Fire Department says a homeowner used a garden hose to extinguish a grill fire. When the fire crew arrived at the Pocahontas Drive address, the fire was contained. The detached garage showed signs of heat and a slight charring on the bottom of the residence.
A successful new program in Madisonville is known as the Junior Ambassadors. Just recently, their third class graduated. Here’s spokesperson Elaina Lancaster. (Clip in audio below)
In Hopkins County, online registration through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal for the fall semester is underway. The district is encouraging parents to complete this task as soon as possible. This is for all students.
So what is the United Way’s Day of Caring? It’s a large, one-day volunteer event to allow volunteers to work on community projects. Spokesperson Ashley Alexander has this description of a Day of Caring. (Clip in audio below) That’s Ashley Alexander of the United Way of the Coalfield.
The Hopkins County Jail is now holding , more than a dozen Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees while their immigration cases are pending. The jail recently received certification from the federal government to house ICE detainees. The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office would facilitate transporting detainees to federal court for immigration proceedings or to other ICE detention facilities.
Looking for persons with an arrest warrant is a big part of policing. When Bryan Williams was located at his South Spring Street residence, the officer made the arrest, but not before
Williams attempted to run away. Using his tazer, the officer made the arrest. Williams is charged with giving an officer false information, and with resisting arrest.
The Hopkins County School Board will meet this evening at the Career & Technology Center on Patriot Drive. The winter sports athletes of the year will be announced. The first graduation ceremony of the season involves the Hopkins County Schools Academy. It will be on Thursday, the 15th at 6 at Hopkins Central.

The governor is pushing the REAL ID. He says May 7th is a federal enforcement date. Kentuckians can still get a REAL ID any time after that date. Additionally, there are other options for those who need to fly and don’t yet have a REAL ID. You can learn more at real-i-d-k-y dot com.
