The Madisonville Lions Club is out with the Man & Woman of the Year awards. Chuck Shockley of First United Bank and Cheri McNary of Independence Bank and help lead Hopkins County Happy Feet. The Man and Woman of the Year began in 1945 to honor individuals making a positive impact through civic, private, and volunteer efforts. Shockley and McNary will be honored at the Awards Dinner at Mahr Park Arboretum on Tuesday, March 25th.
For some time, the city has been saying that more hotels are needed. Some well attended tournaments at the Kentucky Sports Factory have confirmed this evaluation. Mayor Cotton has an update.
The Hopkins County Board of Education meets this afternoon at 5:30pm. The meeting will be at the Central Administrative Office at 320 South Seminary.
You have a flooded basement with the gas water heater in a foot of water. That’s what the Madisonville Fire Department recently encountered at a residence in the 300 block of North Main. After draining the area by turning on the sump pump, they shut off the natural gas to the water heater and the H-VAC unit. Before leaving, the homeowner was advised to call a plumber and an H-VAC technician.
The Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission is hoping many will enter the Great Restaurant Race. It runs through the 30th at 10 participating Hopkins County restaurants. The first prize is a 500-dollar award. Check social media for details about the Great Restaurant Race.

The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a hit and run driver, but not before he fled at a high rate of speed. On East Center Street yesterday morning, Cortez Jackson left the road on the property of Independence Bank. Jackson is facing 13 charges, including reckless driving and fleeing from the police. The state police and the sheriff’s office assisted in the incident that began when the initial collision occurred at Huck’s on National Mine Road.
A man with an active parole warrant is now incarcerated. Last week, officers of Probabation and Parole assisted the M-P-D in making the arrest of Paul Lee. Probation found two orange pills in his possession. They are suspected to be Suboxone. Lee is charged with possessing a controlled substance and with not having the prescription in the proper container.
This is Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week. The National Weather Service says this week should include a time to practice your tornado drill at home, school, and work. It’s also the time to make sure your weather radio is set to go. Last year, there were 59 tornadoes in our region.
The Madisonville City Council has its first meeting of the month this afternoon at 4:30 at city hall. Included will be a discussion of council committee meetings.
Madisonville’s city administrator says it’s one project after another. Here’s Rob Saint speaking about the big project of this year. Saint says it will be another two years before it’s completed.
