Margie Ann Smith Durham, 98, of Barnsley, KY, passed into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 26,2025. She was greeted by her husband of fifty- and one-half years, Dorris Elijah Durham, who was the love of her life.
Born in her Spencer grandparents’ home in Earlington, KY on March 8, 1926 to Clifton Pratt Whit Smith and Janie Young Smith. She was the sixth child of seven Smith children.
Proceeded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters, John Spencer Smith, Katie Smith Brennon, Clifton Pratt Smith, Edith Smith Wall Adams, Ola Belle Smith Durham, and Mable Smith Patterson.
She is survived by her children Karol Kaye Durham Welch and Linda Faye Durham Lam and her husband, Richard; grandchildren: Nathan Travis Welch and his wife Rebecca Ann Beckner, Joshua Lee Lam and his wife Aphrodite, Katie Scarlett Lam Sizemore and her husband, Brett; four great grandchildren Siena Augusta Welch, Noah Alexander Lam, Eli Richard Lam, and Ezekiel Joshua Sizemore; and a host of nieces and nephews and their families.
Margie was a faithful member of Earlington First Baptist Church in Earlington, KY which was always an essential part of her life. She leaves her family with years of memories: Sunday dinners, Christmas celebrations, Thanksgivings, and birthdays etc… which were held in her home. She celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ and Easter by decorating everything inside and outside with beautiful trees of decorations.
She loved wildflowers, trees, planting seeds, and watching her gardens of flowers and vegetables grow to fruition. She also enjoyed travel and canning.
She was the perfect mother, grandmother, housekeeper, and cook, the very heart and soul of the whole family with a legacy of beauty, kindness, and grace.
She was salutatorian of her high school class. She was a member of Women on Missions and the Happy Go Lucky club at the Vineyard in Mortons Gap, She served as a beautician in Christian and Hopkins Counties. She owned a shop in Earlington for years.
After moving to the farm in 1967, she continued to work as a beautician. At the same time Dorris and Margie babysat their three grandchildren with love and greatly influenced their lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Margie’s life Celebration on Wednesday, January 29 2025 at 11:00 AM at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY with Pastor Connie Crick officiating and burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 9am until 11am at the funeral home.
