Alan Lane ” Harpo” Harper, 78, of Mayfield, KY, formerly of Madisonville, KY, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Lourdes/ Mercy Hospital in Paducah, KY.
He was born on February 24, 1946 in Providence, KY to the late Jesse Carroll and Jessie Pauline Harper.
Alan was a member of the Farmington Baptist Church in Farmington, KY, and was a member of IBEW Local #816 Paducah, KY. He had served in the United States Army. He was the original bass player for the Cuz band. He loved to ride his golf cart around the pond and fish, he enjoyed cooking and made the best chili, enjoyed golf, and was a Dallas Cowboys football fan. Alan graduated from Madisonville High School. He loved his two grandchildren Lyndi and Aaron.
He had worked as an electrician and was the owner of Harper Electric; he had also worked at Fowler Lumber company in Madisonville, KY.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Kay Harper and his eight siblings.
Alan is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Qualls and her husband, Dustin, of Mayfield, KY; his brother, Paul Harper of Sheffield, AL; his grandchildren, Aaron Qualls, Lyndi Wood and her husband, Jaron, ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington, KY with Bro. Ben Straton officiating, and burial with military rites performed by the 101st Airborne Fort Campbell and Hopkins County Honor Guard at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, KY.Visitation will be held on Monday November, 18, 2024 from 11:00AM until service time at 1:00PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Qualls, Aaron Qualls, Jaron Wood, Jim “Mac” McDowell, Tim Howard, and Glenn Holmes.
