Bobbie Bivins Simmons, 82, of Madisonville, KY, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 9, 2024, at Madisonville Health and Rehabilitation.
She was born on December 23, 1941, in Madisonville, KY, to the late Lucy Wallace Bivins and Robert Bivins. She was a lifelong member of Oakley Home General Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and was the director of bible school and Christmas plays for many years. She loved to cook for her family and especially loved teaching her grandchildren to cook. She loved all children, especially her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of fifty-three years, James H. Simmons; two sons, James H. Simmons, Jr, and Douglas Ross Simmons; one brother, Garry Bivins; and one sister, Judith “Patty” Whitaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynda Oakley and son-law Steve Oakley of Madisonville; three sisters, June Cavanah of Crofton, KY, Cheri Martin of Madisonville, and Polly (Kenneth) Roberts Nebo, KY; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Shane) Utley of Nebo, KY, Rachel (Jesse) Brandt of Strasburg, IL, James “Coty”(Hannah) Simmons of Madisonville, Taylor (Ben) Lucas of Madisonville, and Kendal Simmons of Greenville, KY; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in the chapel of Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Brad Tucker officiating. A private burial will be held at Oakley Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the funeral home.
