The National Weather Service says we’ll see high pressure for the next two days but the chances of rain will increase Saturday night.
This is a big weekend for high school bands. The Madisonville North Marching Maroons will compete in the Class 4-A Semifinals tomorrow (Saturday) at Daviess County High School. The top 6 will advance to the Finals at Western Kentucky University tomorrow night. The Marching Maroons are 10-time State Champions and 24-time State Finalists. Madisonville’s population has been at around 20-thousand for quite a while. Mayor Kevin Cotton believes the last count might not have been that accurate. (Clip in audio below) Cotton says that he believes Madisonville will continue to hover around 20-thousand.
The millions who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program could be left scrambling for food come November if the government shutdown continues. SNAP is a federal program that provides low-income families monthly benefits to afford food. Funds for the program are allocated monthly, so October benefits went out as usual despite the government shutdown. Here’s Governor Beshear. (Clip in audio below)
Hopkins County’s state senator is expecting some positive energy-related news in the next several months. Robby Mills says he got that tip the other day when he ran into the U-S Secretary of the E-P-A in Henderson. Mills was at Jersey Mike’s Sandwich shop when spotted Lee Zelden. Zeldon was in town to visit Alliance Coal’s Riverview facility. Mills says he urged Secretary Zelden to continue to help Kentucky keep burning coal.
The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department is announcing the arrest of a Central City man with multiple outstanding warrants. 40-year-old Roger Arnold was picked up at his West Reservoir Avenue home. Arrested at the same time was 29-year-old Desiree Johnson. Both are now at the detention center. Arnold is charged with five crimes, including Trafficking in a Controlled Substance. Johnson is charged with six crimes. They include Hindering Prosecution or Apprehension.
Medical cannabis is taking root in the Commonwealth. Governor Beshear says Kentucky’s Medical Cannabis Program has reached another milestone. (Clip in audio below) Medicinal marijuana is used to manage symptoms of various conditions, such as chronic pain, muscle spasms (especially with multiple sclerosis), and chemotherapy-induced nausea.
The state says the Blue Bridge in Owensboro will not re-open until January. It’s undergoing nearly 18-million dolllars in repairs that should keep it in service for many years to come.. In the meantime, traffic is using the U-S 2-31 Natcher Bridge.
