A swerving Kia Soul on I-69 is what led to a traffic stop near mile marker 1-18. The officer discovered that a passenger was in possession of a meth pipe. The K-9 Bane located it. The dog also found a glass pipe and a large amount of suspected meth in the possession of Chrystal Ramos. Ramos was arrested and charged with two drug crimes.
The governor is home from his business trip to Europe. Andy Beshear’s trip was intended to make a number of contacts, and come home with some new business opportunities . Here is his last report. It was made in Paris. (Clip in audio below)
Hopkins County begins collecting Real Estate and Tangible property taxes on November 1st. The tax bills will be in the mail on October 29th. They will be white postcards with a yellow stripe. The sheriff’s office is still at 56 North Main. If you have not received your bill by Friday, November 7th, please phone the sheriff’s office. Beginning November 1st, taxpayers have the option of paying their bill on the website of the Hopkins County Sheriff.
The state police say one of the fastest-growing cyber threats to children is sextortion. Their online video series is designed to help parents identify it. To get the link, visit the Facebook page of the state police.
A new, non profit organization in south Hopkins County is known as the Women of the Gap. Their objective is to bring the community together. Their first project is to honor military veterans with banners that will be displayed around town. Applications can be picked up at city hall.
A serious gas leak in Madisonville has been addressed. Fire crews were notified that a contractor accidentally cut a natural gas line while trying to run new electrical lines near Lago Drive. Atmos Energy shut off the gas and stopped the leak. The residents living next to the leak were not home at the time.
Three persons are being treated for injuries in a two-vehicle head-on collision last week in Madisonville. It occurred at South Main and West View Drive. The police say the Mazda Tribute being driven by 64-year-old Brenda Williams was struck by the Buick Enclave (ON-klave) being driven by Misty Matheny. Matheny and both of the juvenile passengers in the vehicles were treated for minor injuries.
A Madisonville man with an arrest warrant now is facing two new charges. About a month ago, the M-P-D located a glass smoking device with meth residue on it at Kwinton Stratton’s residence on Pritchell Avenue. At that time Stratton informed the officer that he would be cooperative, and assist in the narcotics investigation. This week, the officer arrested Stratton for not fulfilling his obligation. The new charges are possession of meth and drug paraphernalia.
The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office and the Central City police are charging two Central City residents with a number of driving infractions following a traffic stop last week on North 8th Street. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a stolen handgun along with a large amount of suspected methamphetamine, prescription pills, cash, and drug paraphernalia. Arrested were 36-year- old Heather Collier of Central City, and her passenger, 43-year-old Michael Robinson.
