In Hopkins County this morning, the fiscal court will hear the second reading of the ordinance amending the Personnel Administration Policies and Procedures as Contained in the Hopkins County Administration Code regarding C-D-L licenses. The meeting begins at 10 at the Government Center.
The new FEMA Act aims to speed up federal processes, improve accountability, and shift from a slow reimbursement system to faster grant-based funding for counties and states. It’s a bipartisan bill introduced in the House to significantly reform FEMA by elevating it to a cabinet-level agency. Here’s the governor. (Clip in audio below)
A natural gas-only distributor in Kentucky is donating funds to help thousands of families settle unpaid utility bills and past-due debt in preparation for the winter heating season. Atmos Energy says the program is an essential pillar of the company’s Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities initiative. It’s a good year for poster making by Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville doctors. Cody Tucker and Ben Barbee’s submission summarized an innovative video to help patients understand what was needed for cancer prevention. The other winners were Doctors Uqba (YOU-buh) Ahmed, and Madeeha Ahmed. They submitted a poster summarizing a case that was presumed to be a simple lung cancer that turned out to be something very different.
The driver of the car that almost collided with a police cruiser for going the wrong way on a one-way street is also facing three other charges. Neris Ramirez-Rodriquez was arrested on East Arch Street in the parking lot of Independence Bank. The officer could tell Ramirez-Rodriquez had been drinking by the way he looked and smelled. He also had no auto insurance or operator’s license.
A drug overdose is what brought the Madisonville police to an Iroquois Drive residence on Saturday. When it was reported that Amari Anderson was unconscious and that the police were on their way to the residence, he woke up and began running through the neighborhood. He was captured at Ebenezer and Spring Lake streets. Anderson was transported to the detention center and charged with violating an emergency protection order and fleeing from the police.
Three state officials from Frankfort will be in Madisonville today as part of the activities for All-In for Ag Education Week. Commissioner of Agriculture Jonathan Shell, Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher, and Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman will visit Madisonville North to congratulate the F-F-A Team for winning the School Garden Salsa Contest at the Kentucky State Fair.
A civic park in Madisonville wants to move up in the park world. Mahr Park Arboretum is level 2. Director Ashton Robinson says they would like to become level 3. (Clip in audio below) Mahr Park Arboretum is at 465 Mahr Park Road.
