We now have an update on the I-69 Ohio River Crossing project that is ultimately intended to boost the economy as it runs from Mexico to Canada. It’s being described as a brand new north-south interstate path for the entire country. The construction on the bridge is expected to begin in 2027. Congressman James Comer and Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy held a press conference on the project yesterday.
All of the numbers are in, and they’re now saying that this year’s 9-11 Heroes Run is being considered one of Madisonville’s best. Here’s Deputy City Administrator Brad Long. (Clip in audio below)
The Travis Manion Foundation was established to continue the legacy of Marine 1st Lieutenant Travis Manion, who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq in 2007.
Public school students in Hopkins County are about to enjoy a district-wide effort to provide a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables during lunch. The Color Counts Initiative is designed to make healthy eating fun and engaging by combining nutrition with visual appeal. Each school will choose its own offerings, ensuring that students enjoy variety and choice. Included will be fresh produce from the F-F-A at Hopkins Central.
The Madisonville Salutes event at City Park will include two memorials. The Traveling Vietnam Wall & Cost of Freedom Tribute is an 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It will be at the park from the 12th to the 14th. The Traveling World War Two Memorial will be the park those same days. Those memorials pays tribute to the sacrifices made during war.
The National Weather Service says there are no signs of significant rain in the forecast through the next 7 days.
The Madisonville police are supplied with video of a woman committing a burglary. The incident with Lauren Furgerson occurred on Friday afternoon at Victoria Trailer Park while the residents were sleeping. She entered lot 37 at Victoria Trailer Park and took a backpack. The police say Furgerson was wearing the same clothing as was seen in the video. They also say she was under the influence of a controlled substance.
Many know that it’s a challenge to embrace the military lifestyle. It’s can also be a challenge to transition out of the military and comfortably assimilate into civilian life. One of the people receiving an award last week at the Kentucky Emergency Services Conference in Louisville is Abby Cummings of Muhlenberg County 9-1-1. Cummings was deployed to North Carolina during last year’s flooding.
The Dawson Springs Independent School System is making some adjustments to improve Panther sports facilities. Arrangements have been made to allow Panther golf to now be played at Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park. Until the city park is available, the system’s softball and baseball games will be played at Riverside Park.
