It’s now thought that the Sunday morning fire in Madisonville at B & B Automotive Repair on South Main Street was caused by an electrical malfunction in the ceiling. The fire call came in at 2:30 in the morning and the flames took 10 hours to put out. Officials say many specialty tools were lost.
The Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office is charging a man with 10 crimes. Steven Russo of Nebo is alleged to have used a motor vehicle to assault two individuals. The sheriff’s office reports that when they made contact with him, Russo would not comply and then fled in a vehicle, before ditching it in favor running. He was captured in Nebo Sunday evening on North Hoffman Street. Russo’s charges include assault and possession of synthetic drugs.
The Madisonville police believe that a man who was placed under arrest for an outstanding warrant should have an additional charge. The police say that after James Mitchell arrived at the jail, video shows him pulling money and items out of his sock and placing something under a bench. He was also seen dropping a small plastic baggie. Now, Mitchell is being charged with possibly being in possession of meth, and with trying to dispose of it before being booked into jail.
The objective of Madisonville’s police academy is to make the city safer. Almost never mentioned is the fact that the bad guys have the strong tendency to avoid locations with police cars. M-P-D Chief Steve Bryan says that’s likely to have a positive impact. (Clip in audio below)
The National Weather Service says a cold front will provide a chance for rain. In the meantime, the area is dealing with a worsening drough situation.
This will be the 13th year of the 9-11 Heroes Run. It’s said to be critical to helping Americans fulfill a promise to never forget and share the significance of 9-11 with future generations. Spokesperson Kellie Forbes says it’s more than a 5-K. (Clip in audio below)
A traffic stop in Central City is what led to an arrest of a Belton man on multiple drug charges. The sheriff’s office says deputies could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the Dodge Charger of 43-year-old Jonathan Flener on South 2nd Street. In the vehicle, deputies located methamphetamine, hydrocodone pills, marijuana, digital scales, plastic baggies, and cash.
The state police are hoping for some traction in a 30-year-old missing person case. 23-year-old Heather Teague of Webster County was last seen on Newburgh Beach. In recent days, crews have been excavating behind Cageys Store on Highway 811 near Reed. That’s not too far from Newburgh Beach. Found were some bone fragments that are being sent to Louisville for evaluation.
Frankfort is announcing six railroad projects to preserve and modernize the state’s rail system. Governor Beshear says these projects will keep our railways running smoothly and safely for years to come. He says the railroads create opportunities for more Kentuckians.
