In Hopkins County, the sheriff’s office says the 2022 Hopkins County unmined coal tax bills are now due and payable. Residents not receiving a bill by September 10th should phone the Sheriff’s Office. Bills can be paid at the sheriff’s office at 56 North Main, or use the drop box. Those choosing to pay by mail, should include a copy of the tax bill or put the bill number on your check. To receive a receipt, a self-addressed, stamped envelope needs to be included. Those paying before October will receive a 2 percent discount. The penalties begin in November.
When doing a traffic stop, the first few seconds with the driver often tells the story. That’s when the cop is hit with the powerful smell of alcohol. That was the case when Anton Floyd was recently stopped on East Center Street. The officer could also tell that Floyd had no brake lights. Central Dispatch notified the officer that Floyd did not have an operator’s license on file with the state. Floyd admitted that he had had a couple of beers. The failing grade on the sobriety test led to the drunk driving charge.
It was the lack of a bicycle light that led a Madisonville police officer to do a traffic stop. Marvin Rice said he would submit to a sobriety test. Rice also admitted as to having some drugs in his possession. Rice has prior convictions for possession of synthetic drugs.
Law enforcement is hoping the exhumed remains of a murder suspect will help solve a 30 year mystery of a former Webster County cheerleader. 23-year-old Heather Teague disappeared from Newburgh beach 30 years ago today. Her body has never been found. The police say Marty Dill killed himself not long after she went missing. It’s hoped his D-N-A could provide some answers.
A section of the northbound pavement of I-69 in Mortons Gap is being studied. The transportation cabinet says earlier this month following heavy rainfall, cracks began to appear and one of the lanes began to sink. The initial repair efforts were not successful. Now, after some drilling, engineers still do not now what’s causing the problem. The region is known for subsidence due to coal mining but they say there are a number of possible causes.
In Hopkins County, the sheriff’s office is hoping someone can help them with information about a theft. They say what’s missing is a 2016 Bad Boy Buggy cart and a Stihl 400 series chainsaw from an address on Ilsley Road. If you have information, please contact authorities.
The police say the collision of a car with a scooter on Friday is being investigated. It occurred in the 21-hundred block of Westerfield Drive near the Providence Pharmacy. The operator of the scooter required surgery for her injuries. The police say the driver was cited for failing to stop and render aid.
Kentucky Congressman James Comer says was one of the loudest voices insisting President Biden was fit to serve is now admitting to Congress that he barely interacted with the president during his two years at the White House. Mr. Comer spoke about Ian Sams when he appeared on Fox News. (Clip in audio below) Congressman Comer says he will continue to press for answers to ensure full transparency for the American people.
