Jackie Winders Obituary
Jackie Lee Winders, 89 of Providence passed away Friday, August 15, 2025, at Baptist Health Deaconess. Born January 2, 1936, to the late Oscar and Dorothy (Faulk) Winders of Mortons Gap. He was of the Christian faith and was an US Army Veteran. Jackie had a talented basketball career, he was and still is one of the top scorers in Kentucky High School Basketball. He played at Murray State prior to being drafted into the Army; upon his return he received a double scholarship to Austin Peay for basketball and baseball. This allowed him to be on the basketball team with his brother, Bobby, and they were also joined by their sister, Linda, who was a cheerleader for Austin Peay. Jackie was a teacher and the basketball coach at Providence High School for many years, he was a Jr. Pro coach, and he was a substitute teacher in several counties over the years. Throughout his life he worked in the coal mines, was a tree trimmer and was part of a termite company. To say that Jackie was a “Jack of all trades” would be an understatement. Jackie had many interests and many talents, most of all he had a love for his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Wilda Winders; and brother, Wallace Winders.
Survived by his children, Darren Winders and Sabrina (Robert) Meadows of Madisonville; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Winders, Kaylyn (Brent) Morse, Jesse (Beverly) Smith, Logan (Olivia Boaz) Smith, Cody (Ashley) Smith and Kenny Smith; 7 great-grandchildren, Eleyna, Elijah, Kasey, Kadyn, Mallory, Adaline and Willie Smith; siblings, Bobby Winders of White Plains, Linda (Rick) Martin of Madisonville, Phyllis (Terry) Bowman of Mortons Gap and Vickie (Barry) Fox of Nortonville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Service will be held Thursday at 1:00pm at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville with Bro. Terry Bowman officiating. Burial to follow at Old Salem Church Cemetery in Mortons Gap. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00pm – 7:00pm and Thursday from 11:00am until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jesse, Logan, Cody, Kadyn and Kasey Smith. Honorable Pallbearers are Rick Knowles and Mick Knowles.
