In Madisonville, the police are reporting the arrest of a suspected shooter early yesterday (Sunday). Officers were told by some the residents of Hidden Hills Apartments on Allison Avenue that several shots were fired from one of the apartments. After a shell casing was found, some people were evacuated. After receiving a search warrant, the police visited 28-year-old Roger Blair. In his apartment, they found several shell casings and bullet holes. Blair had the gun, but the police had to find it.
The state police say foul play is what took the life of 10-month-old Earlington infant. They have arrested the child’s caretakers, and charged them with manslaughter in the death of Scarlette Witherspoon. 27-year-old Samantha Stagner and 29-year-old Dayton Mason are being held at the county detention center. The K-S-P says the investigation is not over.
The M-P-D is reporting the arrest of a man who pulled out a gun during an argument. The incident with Michael Gardner occurred at Elite Tattoo at 530 East Center. Gardner is charged wanton endangerment.
Officials are stressing that a substance being passed off as a designer drug is as dangerous as other scheduled synthetic opioids, including fentanyl. The Kentucky Attorney General wants the state to ban bromazolam (bro-MAZ-uh-lamb). Russell Coleman says bromazolam is also known as designer Xanax. Rob Sanders of Kenton County says it’s being passed off as a prescription that is commonly used to treat conditions such as anxiety disorders, insomnia and seizures. (Clip in audio below)
The Madisonville police are holding the man charged with stabbing another man on Saturday night. The victim told the officers that Ashley Poindexter had stabbed him in the arm at a residence on West Lake Street. Poindexter is charged with assault second degree. The police found the knife. The victim received some medical treatment but refused to have stitches.
Madisonville Community College will host a professional development workshop designed to equip leaders and teams with practical strategies to improve morale, reduce turnover, and build stronger workplace relationships. Antoine Smith-Rouse will use the book entitled the 5 Love Languages written by Dr. Gary Chapman. The event will be tomorrow (Tuesday, the 19th) from 8:30 to 4:30.
A new law allows the state to use cameras to identify speeders in highway work zones. (Clip in audio below) You’ll know a camera is in place by a sign when entering the work zone.
Officials are glad to report that a significant milestone for the new I-69 Ohio River Crossing has been achieved. The Kentucky Public Transportation Infrastructure Authority has authorized a financial plan for Section 2 of the project and has approved a resolution to enter into a Bi-State Development Agreement between Kentucky and Indiana for future construction. Such agreements provide the framework for cooperation between the two states for projects with a shared border.
