The state senator representing Hopkins, Webster, Union, and Henderson counties is the recipient of an honor from the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police. Robby Mills has been awarded the Outstanding Legislative Service Award for his work on Senate Bill 10 in last year’s session. It’s agreed that the measure improved County Employees Retirement System post retirement health benefits.
The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a man who had been kicked out of a Mexican restaurant. At the time of his arrest, Ethan Glenn had been screaming at the Hardees’ drive-thru clerk. The police say Glenn had taken an orange pill suspected to be suboxone.
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Hopkins County Cooperative Extension Office will be on Friday, September 26th at 11:30. It’s at the entrance to Mahr Park Arboretum at 25 Mahr Park Drive.
What’s new with the state Transportation Cabinet? Automated speed enforcement for work zones. It’s about lowering speeds and saving lives. Cameras will be placed in select work zones, with officers stationed where they can safely make traffic stops. Tickets will not be mailed. The state says it’s all about safety.
Tick activity is reaching new levels across the country. This is posing a serious and growing public health threat. The best prevention is long sleeved shirts and pants. Dr. Marshall Hall of Nashville says Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is one of the most common tick-related diseases. (Clip in audio below) Other ways to be protected are to use EPA-approved insect repellents, and perform tick checks after being outside
The Madisonville police say the woman who claimed she swerved and hit a telephone pole because of a cat is facing charges. The incident occurred on West Jagoe Street. While at the hospital, as Elizabeth Cissna was engaged in a conversation, she would periodically fall asleep. Cissna is charged with careless driving and with operating a vehicle under the influence of a foreign substance.
A suspicious cyclist is now incarcerated and facing three charges. Officers on bicycles located Joshua Skinner on East Center Street. Central Dispatch notified them that Skinner had two active arrest warrants. He was found to be in possession of synthetic drugs and drug paraphernalia. Dispatch was also notified that Skinner had a similar charge five years ago.
Madisonville is planning an all day event at City Park to be known as Madisonville Salutes. Yes, it’s a day to promote the military. Mayor Cotton is hoping to see a lot of folks. (Clip in audio below) Madisonville Salutes will last all day on Saturday, September 13th, and even run into the evening.

The training of a new class of Kentucky State Police officers is underway in Richmond. The Academy Commander says the cadets will be taught the realities of modern policing, with a focus on professionalism, ethics and community connection.
