You’re invited to a ribbon cutting. The Hopkins County Schools say it’s for the opening of their Middle School Career Labs. The event recognizes the launch of the Paxton Patterson Career Labs at each middle school, James Madison, Browning Springs , South Hopkins, and West Hopkins. These labs will impact more than 15-hundred students by providing exposure to Career & Technical Education. The event takes place today at James Madison Middle School at 4.
The M-P-D is charging a driver with texting while she was driving. When the officer noticed that Katy Black was shaking, she was asked do a sobriety test. It was assessed that Black was impaired due to illicit drug use and was unsafe to operate a motor vehicle. She then admitted that she had recently used meth. Black faces four charges.
Were there Civil War events in Hopkins County? Stephen Ray of the Geneological Society says a history professor from Owensboro named Derrick Lindow will tell the story of Stovepipe Johnson who did a lot of river travel. (Clip in audio below) It’s tomorrow morning at 10 at the Government Center.
There will be TV coverage of the Fancy Farm political picnic. Kentucky Educational Television had said there would be no coverage due to federal budget cuts until the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce offered to sponsor it. The annual event is today and is considered a major political gathering that’s noted for its lively stump speeches.
A drug investigation begun by the Madisonville police is now being handled by federal agencies. The initial arrests brought in several hundred pounds of marijuana, cocaine and meth. Also collected were guns and over 100-thousand dollars in cash. The M-P-D says they were helped by several agencies in the drug bust.
The city of Madisonville is getting financial help to support a water infrastructure project. This investment from the Delta Regional Authority’s Community Infrastructure Fund will support the installation of a new public waterline serving a regional training center and a power generation facility. These projects represent a 180-million-dollar private investment.
In Dawson Springs, the Board of Education is now searching for a new member. Chairperson Vicki Allen has retired after 23 years. She says she wants to spend more time with her family. . Superintendent Lenny Whalen says he has a lot of appreciation for Vicki. The Board has unanimously voted to appoint Wes Ausenbaugh as Chairman, and Meredith Hyde as Vice Chair.
Sturgis now has an urgent care clinic for all ages and primary care for adult patients. The clinic owner is Meredith Hall. She says they plan to mix modern medicine with old-fashioned style. The Sturgis Clinic at 412 North Main Street will be open Tuesday through Friday for walk ins and appointments.
In Hopkins County, the West Kentucky A-T-V Park near Barnsley will be reopen for the season at 7 AM tomorrow. The 20-mile Off-Road Recreational Trails Area includes a gravel parking lot, trailhead, and restroom facilities. It’s not for jeeps or trucks. It’s only for A-T-Vs, DIRT BIKES AND SIDE-BY-SIDES.
