The Madisonville police are reporting the arrest of a driver who disregarded a stop sign and was in possession of synthetic drugs. Delilah Hughes agreed to a field sobriety test during the traffic stop that proved to the officer that she was impaired due to illicit drug use and was unfit to operate a motor vehicle. When asked if she felt impaired, Hughes said no.
Muhlenberg County is excited with the Paradise Solar Project. Edelen Renewables and the Muhlenberg Alliance for Growth and Economic Advancement say it’s a clean energy initiative that will be built on reclaimed coal mining land near the former Paradise Power Plant. It will be capable of powering 53-hundred homes. No dates for the project have been announced.
Our state has a new alert system. The Ian Alert is specifically designed for children who have disabilities who are in physical danger. The Ian Alert uses the same system as Amber Alerts, involving emergency management agencies. (Clip in audio below) The Ian Alert is designed for children under 18 with disabilities.
The Webster County Schools have an announcement for all parents and guardians. They say if you want to be connected, download the Parent Square-Student Square app. It’s described as the one-stop shop for all school-related communications. It has everything from alerts and teacher messages to submitting attendance notes and important calendar dates. The app is free at the App Store and Google Play.
The need for more retail shops in Madisonville is being addressed. Hobby Lobby is open in the new, 30-million dollar Town Center just off of Island Ford Road. Some of the other businesses located there will be an Aldi, Marshall’s, Five Below, and Ulta Beauty. Addionally, a Zaxby’s restaurant broke ground last week next to the new Seven Brew Coffee and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
In Hopkins County, the health department is busy keeping up with the giarda (gee-ARE-dee-uh) cases linked to the El Tapatio (tah-puh-TEE-oh) Restaurant in Madisonville. Giardia is a microscopic parasite that leads to intestinal infection. Health officials say the condition is spread when a restaurant worker who is sick with Giardia goes to the bathroom and returns without carefully washing his hands. A local law firm says it’s phone has been ringing off the hook.
In Madisonville, the city understands that when zoning adjustments are proposed, it’s not unusual for some residents to become disturbed. Zoning Administrator Mandy Todd says she understands. (Clip in audio below) Todd says the Hopkins County Joint Planning Commission is a joint-governmental agency that works with its members on land use planning.
In Hopkins County, the elementary schools will have a special event for kindergarten students and their parents. It’s intended introduce the teachers and staff, and complete the kindergarten screening. The event will be on Wednesday, July 30th, from 1 to 5 at each elementary school.
