The Madisonville Police are charging a man with starting a residential fire late Thursday night. No one was harmed. 35-year-old Clyde Bymaster is facing an arson charge in which he used four molotov cocktails. After a short search, the police located him and transported him to the detention center. Bymaster admitted he started the fire at 7-11Hanson because he was upset with the victim. He also said he apologized to the victim. The fire department was able to quickly extinguish the flames.
A Canadian-based plastics packaging producer is opening up its first American operation here in Hopkins County. The 43-million dollar investment will include the construction of a 100-thousand square-foot building, as well as new equipment, machinery, automation and molds. It will create 164 jobs. The governor made the announcement in Frankfort. (Clip in audio below) Construction is expected to begin this year and be completed next year.
A number of new laws are going into effect in our state. The cell phone rules for public school students will be a little more restrictive. Keith West reports from Frankfort on House Bill 208. (Clip in audio below)
Since this is Great Outdoors Month, Webster County is reporting that over a quarter of a million dollars is helping to develop Canaan Ridge Park in Dixon. The latest grant is helping to support the construction and improvement of walking trails.
The Madisonville police have a suspect in a hit and run D-U-I. They say 55-year-old Anthony White drove away after hitting a vehicle in the area of West Arch and Dempsey. When the police pulled White over, they did not know that he had been in an accident. Since they could smell alcohol on his breath, they had him take a field sobriety test. White’s vehicle contained several open containers and some marijuana.
Muhlenberg County is announcing a positive business development. A firm that provides end-to-end sawmill solutions will be expanding its operations. Brewco Saw Systems will invest one point two million dollars in the project. This includes creating 20 jobs that will more than double the company’s employment. Governor Beshear made the announcement in Frankfort. (Clip in audio below)
The new director of transportation with the Hopkins County Schools has been in education for 19-years. Derek Stone has served as a principal and assistant principal. For the past year,
Stone has been a 4th grade teacher at Grapevine Elementary. He previously taught at West Hopkins School and Jesse Stuart Elementary.
The Dawson Springs Independent School System will hold a special meeting this evening. The only item on the agenda is to review and potentially approve district insurance for the coming school year. The meeting begins at 6 at the board office.
