You might be able to help a film project get off the ground. The producer of the epic tale of good versus evil says they need location shots that include a waterfall and a cave. If you can help suggest a location for one, or both of these needs, contact the West Kentucky Film Commission. The producer also says they are working on an unscripted series highlighting Kentuckians with unique and compelling life stories. They are hoping to receive some ideas. A fire alarm does not always mean a fire. When the Madisonville fire crews arrived at 751 Laffoon, everything appeared to be normal. A full sweep of the structure confirmed there was no fire or smoke. What they found was a faulty duct sensor which was repaired.
Kentucky advocacy groups say the state is not doing enough to keep kids out of foster care. The advocacy group known as the Kentucky Forum for Rights, Economics and Education says parental incarceration has driven up the number of kids in the foster care system. Lawmakers have attempted to pass the Family Preservation and Accountability Act. Spokesperson Sarah Durand says it would have reduced the number of primary caregivers behind bars. Webster County Emergency Management says there are 10 locations where residents can cool off. Transportation is also available to help residents get there. The list of cool places is on social media. You can also get it by phoning the county library.
New charges may be filed against the man who assaulted a man outside a Madisonville restaurant recently. The victim has passed away. The police say on June 15th, 45-year-old Roger McCarty the Second was was flown to a trauma center after being beaten by 61-year-old Darin Dublin in the parking lot near the El Bracero Restaurant. Dublin admitted he was involved but he was acting in self defense.
There are many reasons to enjoy 4th Fest. In Madisonville this year, it’s July 4th to the 6th. Mayor Kevin Cotton says one of the benefits of the concerts is what it does to promote the city and county. (Clip in audio below)
Kentucky Emergency Management says FEMA is still helping farmers and farm workers, regardless of their home county. The first Agriculture Recovery Center is at the Daviess County Extension Office. Farmers can meet with the agencies and commodity groups to learn about the grants, loans and other forms of assistance they might be eligible for, as they recover from the impact of the storms in April and May. No payment is required for the FEMA assistance. Farm workers eligibility can be verified by phoning FEMA’s hotline. The deadline to register for assistance is July 25th.
