A swerving car that left I-69 without using the turn signal is what led to a traffic stop. Adam Kloeppel told the offier that he had some firearms in the Chevy Malibu but that the officer was not allowed to see them. Lokie the M-P-D canine located two firearms that had been reported stolen, as well as an envolope containing cash. Kloeppel was then transported to the detention center .
It’s a big work week with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. In Hopkins County, lots of ditching with take place in the first mile of Kentucky 138. There will also be mowing on nine state highways. In Webster County. Ditching will be done on Kentucky 857.
Kentucky’s newly established Medicaid Oversight and Advisory Board convenes for its first meeting this week. Congress is considering cuts that could affect more than a billion dollars in funding for Kentucky Medicaid. Emily Beauregard with Kentucky Voices for Health says legislators do not need to reduce coverage. (Clip in audio below) The meeting is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday).
The Webster County Schools are hoping many residents will take a quick communication survey. They say it only takes a couple of minutes. The link is on the school district’s FACEBOOK page.
The new Hopkins County Extension Office is scheduled to open later this summer. It will offer a variety of programs that will benefit the entire community. They’ll range from cooking classes and youth activities to health and wellness workshops. Many of them will be free of charge. The new office at the entrance of Mahr Park Arboretum.
The National Weather Service says the heat wave will continue through the week with heat index values over 100 degrees.
Careless driving is what captured the attention of the police the other day on Pin Oak Lane in Madisonville. The temporary tag on Marcus Wilson’s Honda Civic was partially torn off. Central Dispatch informed the officer that Wilson’s Tennessee driver’s license was suspended. Marijuana was then emanating from the vehicle. Wilson was transported to the jail for booking.
It seems that more Kentuckians are familiar with how FEMA works than maybe ever before. Meanwhile, the Hopkins County Director of Emergency Management says too many people give up too easy when they receive a letter than indicates that FEMA may not be able to help. Here is Nick Bailey. The Hopkins County Fiscal Court meets this morning (Tuesday) at 10 at the Government Center. New business includes Health Department Tax Rates, and the approval of the Hopkins County Administrative Code.
The Commonwealth is celebrating the first graduating class from Madisonville’s new Criminal Justice Training Center. 23 officers serving with 17 different law enforcement agencies completed the course in the building provided by the Madisonville Police Department on Nebo Road. In the near future, construction will begin on a 50 million dollar multipurpose training facility that will share the responsibility of training law enforcement officers in the state with the Richmond location at Eastern Kentucky University.
